What do you HATE about the EU? — Page 26

Especially since it's supposed to be a remote, out-of-the-way secret base for the Rebels for a temporary period of time.

Exactly.

Plenty of other ice worlds. Rhen Var would have made much better sense with the ancient Jedi ruins.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

World shrinkage is not such a problem to me. I hate it because of the visual design.

I hate how TCW made so much effort to do right what the prequels did wrong but doesn't get the recognition it deserves because of canon nazis.

Is it the EU fault that everything had to have a backstory?  Is it the success of the 90's Eu that the prequels were even made?

I would charge that both are true.

Characters like Boba Fett needed a back story because people did not want any sort of mystery and they wanted all the blanks filled in.

The EU even infected Lucas thinking as far as i can tell.  Before the 90's he insisted the EU did not exist and was separate from his universe.  Flash forward he uses the EU for source material to make the prequels.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

Pretty much the only thing he used as material from the EU was the name of Coruscant. And the pronunciations in Phantom Menace for it are bizarre.

He killed a lot of EU stuff with the prequels. The nature of the clone wars and what happens when a dark side user dies are standouts.

Main thing I hate about the EU is the power creep. Sun crushers and Sith Sorcerers who can create black holes. Vader and Yoda both hinted at the great power of the force, but the greatest feats were performed by people who did lots of little things with big consequences. The force destroyed the Death Star through Luke. It didn't pull it out of orbit.

Yes, because Lucas' acceptance of less than 1% of the EU somehow means he actually accepted 99% of it.

How did people pronounce Coruscant before TPM?

Not with a G, I assure you. When Qui-Gon rescues the pilots, I swear he says Gorazat and the droid repeats it back.

You mean "Cor-oo-sk-ant"? I thought it was "Chorus-aunt".

When someone defends the EU with "the prequels did it too" or "Lucas did it too". How does one person doing something wrong make it ok for someone else to also do something wrong?

All the character power level pettiness. There's constant arguing and even exagerrated statements within the EU about who the most powerful character of all time is.

I once had an argument with a legitimate friend of mine in which he attempted to claim that the Chosen One prophecy referred not to Anakin, not even to Luke, but Galen Marek.

Because of a video game being a video game, he assumed he was more powerful.

I have bad friends. :(

While I agree his short story is completely stupid, IG-88 is not a creation of the EU.

I know. I was referring to the story.

I like vs. debates though, even have a list on who's the strongest Sith. Although I can understand that they're frustrating. I don't like how the EU made the Force Magic-like, you know Sorcery and spells when that's not even hinted in the movies at all.
