I believe that Warner had/has TV distribution rights to the post-Corman-era New World library under license from Lakeshore, who acquired them when they bought Trans Atlantic Entertainment.

I'm very interested in getting this as well.  Cinemageddon isn't doing public sign ups at this time though. If anyone wants to trade me I can trade an invite to Xtreme Wrestling Torrents or Xtreme Classics for a Cinemageddon invite.

I'd be grateful for a CG invite as well, though I don't have anything to offer.

Hello again fellow posters,

I just  received my new copy of Godzilla 1985 from iOffer.com and it was awesome video and audio copy.  Must of been from Laser Disc.

Highly recommend the purchase.  Well worth the $11.49 price tag.

You are probably better off just asking outright as I'm not sure trading invites is really wise ..... just saying.

Does anyone have CG invite? I would love one if possible :)

A DVD version of this is on MySpleen, loaded today.

The version on myspleen is quite nice, but has some issues.  Wrong aspect ratio, telecine issues, interlacing issues, and missing subtitles.  I corrected them, and the results are quite nice. Big thanks to the those that made this possible.

the DVD I downloaded originally had the same issues

there was a second DVD made with subtitles and uploaded to cinemageddon but the audio kept going widely out of sync

Hey Echo, are all of these going to need de-interlacing or just this one?

Yes, they all have the same issues.  None of the other uploads are of much use to me, as the monstersHD broadcast altered the aspect ratio, or I already own the superior DVD.

Damn them MonstersHD .... wtf were they thinking anyways?

Its common practice for TV.  The vast majority of 2.35:1 aspect ratio movies are cropped down to 1.78:1 (16x9) for TV broadcast.   They figure people will complain about black bars. Turner Classic Movies and MGM HD are one of the few stations that always show the films in the original aspect if possible.

Also a common practice in the UK where 2.35:1 films are routinely cropped to fill 16x9. Even major broadcasters like the BBC still perform this butchery and ITV, who've owned the Star Wars UK broadcast rights for decades, even now still don't show the films in their OAR.

All of the UK Godzilla tapes released by 4Front and Carlton were cropped to 1.78:1.

So, a new book came out and we learned so much, and it is called, “Anguilosaurus, Killer of the Living”.

Wait, I thought all the Heisei Godzilla films were 1.85:1 to begin with? IMDb says it's 1.85:1, and I was always under the impression that it was that AR. Which would mean this is NOT cropped other than the slight modification to 1.78:1 (which IMO doesn't count - if it's cropped rather than vertically opened, the picture lost is usually in line with framing variations that would have occurred from theater to theater in the film's original run)

It wasn't until the Millennium era that they went back to 2.35:1.

And it was the Showa films that were cropped to 1.78:1 on MonstersHD.

I was merely straying off topic to mention that yes, the TohoScope Showa films were cropped to 16:9 in the UK for video.

The Heisei films were physically shot hard matted to something like 1.66:1 I believe. I have an Italian copy of Biollante that reveals a bit more of the top and bottom though, so there's all sorts of special effects optical leakage.

There's at least one European tape of The Return of Godzilla's international dub that is over framed in a similar way. You can also see the telecine operator adjust the framing on the Carlton tape during the first reel of that film.

So, a new book came out and we learned so much, and it is called, “Anguilosaurus, Killer of the Living”.

Ah, FX optical leakage. I remember when I saw a Terminator trailer projected open-matte, and the picture was letterboxed but the animated electrical stuff went out into the black space.

Thanks for clarifying.

So I’ve been catching up on this thread over the weekend…I assume the original poster never was able to complete his vision, so I’m working on a project to create an ultimate copy of Return of Godzilla for myself (I’m a lifelong fan) and the numerous folks I see on TohoKingdom and in the above thread.

I have a Toho Blu-ray copy of Return of Godzilla in transit to me, which I plan to use as a master for a new Blu-ray image with branching between the best possible MonstersHD cut of '85 I can find (currently just stuck with a ~700mb copy) with seamless integration back into the superior Blu-ray print.

I’d also like to include a third option with the International/Export dub. You seem to know more about this version than most, and I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction to obtain it? I don’t mind dropping $10 or so on a bootleg that has the English Toho dub, so if you aren’t comfortable/able to share online, a link or any tips would be much appreciated.

Obviously, any assistance would give you priority access to the final project, once complete. 😃

If you know anybody with a source for the Toho English Dub and/or a less-compressed copy of the MonstersHD 1985 cut, please feel free to have them PM me here. Some of you guys have connections to CG and that seems like it may be the best source for either of the above…

…unless I’m completely out of touch and someone has already done something like this and I’m just not cool enough to have the proper connections in order to acquire it.

If you guys could help fill in the gaps here, it could benefit us all 😃

…Riggan Rose?

Anyway, I’ve decided to create a Harmy-style HD reconstruction of this version of the film. You can see my topic about it here, and my original post over on Toho Kingdom here.

Does anyone have this (or know someone who might have this) in 1080i from Monsters HD? I’ve been looking for a full-res version for years and have only found standard definition rips, none of which look that good.

Technically, I know one person who has the HD rez version, but he won’t let anyone see it.

Any luck finding this yet?

I know who the guy is they’re talking about, and I’ve heard alternately that he has it and won’t let anyone see it and that it doesn’t actually exist.
