We will rip the 5.1 from the original Miramax DVD (the Blu-Ray's all seem to have a tiny DTS 2.0 track) and include it as an option.

The Dragon Dynasty disc has DTS audio and an audio commentary. I'm pretty sure the old Miramax release has only DD audio.

Another update... Illness prevented me from finishing DM2 so fear not, i am recovering and back on track. My editing partner has taken care of the subtitles and added additional audio tracks (like English dubbing for those who are inclined).

We are back on track so not much longer now and then BOOM, you will see SUPERCOP come right after.

I don't post a lot in your threads, but I just wanted to say you've done some great work so far and made some fine choices for projects. I'm not deeply versed in Hong Kong cinema, but I know there's a lot of gold in there deserving of a proper restoration.

God of Cookery someday?  The improved subtitles alone would be worth it...

I'm not sure God of Cookery would be in the immediate future. We have so many titles lined up now that my mind bleeds from thinking about it.

Glad you are feeling better. Gotta say I'm excited by Supercop but DM2 is perhaps one of the best MA film every made, I'm truly excited to see the end results.

Great to hear! I recently re-watched Drunken Master 1 (in HD, no less), and I'm really looking forward to re-visiting DM2.

I've been wondering, did anyone ever capture the HD version of Dragons Forever that was up on Netflix? It had the Miramax logo at the beginning, but it was in Cantonese with English subs, and as far as I remember, it was in real HD, unlike the Blu-rays. It's not available anymore. Would be a shame if no one capped it.

Fully with the sentiments already expressed. These films deserve a far better treatment than what they have received, and after personally having to resort to poor bootlegs to see them originally some time ago, I'm really looking forward to seeing what rabbit you can pull out of the hat.

Exporting final Cantonese audio as I type this. Muxing a test disc tomorrow.

Test BD was great. Audio was as good as I can possibly get it. No issues with the subtitles. So we are nearing home base.

Sounds awesome!

Speaking of Drunken Master, have you guys checked out the japanese 35th Anniversary Blu-Rays of Drunken Master and Snake in the Eagle's Shadow yet? They look so much better than any previous versions.

Yes, and not only they look better than the previous versions, but also they feature what appears to be brand new 4k scans. The soundtracks are the original Cantonese in PCM (there's only one scream that seems to be replaced in one of the movies, but I'm not sure now in which one is it).

They also have the japanese cuts in HD (they are from DVD masters, which are also quite good, no upscale, just old HD masters)

They only caveat is lack the proper english subtitles. And if anyone could provide those, I'd like to mux with them with these Sony Japanese Editions

Thanks for the info!

As for the subtitles, I encountered the same problem so I OCR'd the subtitles from Drunken Master Hong Kong Legends R2 DVD and retimed (and edited) them for the Blu-ray. Not an optimal solution, but since I don't speak chinese and thus cannot translate it myself, it's the best I could do.

Just my two cents on the Japanese Blus of DM and SITES.

The image quality on both movies is excellent. They do however have the credits in English rather than Chinese. It also looks to me like the titles were digitally recreated, and are not actually on the print itself. DM's Cantonese track is more complete than on previous Sony releases, but it's still not 100% complete. All the dialog has been restored, but there are a few moments during fight scenes where it switches to the English dub (grunts, screams, etc.) The music in the opening scene is also timed incorrectly. The sound quality is decent, but I feel like it could be better. The sound quality on DM in particular varies greatly. Does any Laserdisc release of DM contain the full Cantonese audio? Of course, there are no English subtitles. The subtitles from the old Sony DVD sync up nicely, but they are dubtitles, unfortunately.

It would appear some have already subtitled these releases. I am working on obtaining them now. Of course, likely dubtitles. Most sub scripts are just dubtitles.

IcePrick,

the titles and credits are indeed replaced and it's probably a side effect of a new OCN scan. So this trade off is worth it IMO. But of course, that's no excuse, they could have done it right and recreated the proper fonts and language.

As for the audio tracks, I'm not knowledgeable in HK LD, but if there's a better source, it sure would be a fantastic welcome.

The only other thing I could say about PQ, is that it's a bit on the bright side, while the DVD had some black crush. Maybe the ideal would be somewhere in between.

But anyway, it's hard to complain in face of the new 4k scan (supposedly so), specially considering what a hard task it is to find quality HK cinema material.

Of course, the thing with the titles is just a minor quibble. The transfers are otherwise fantastic.

DRUNKEN MASTER 2 is now seeding at the AsianDVD forum. It's a private site but I am working on a way to make this release public.

Awesome!

It's great news that the project is successfully completed; It's good to know that a proper version of the movie now exists.

Of course, some kind of public distribution would be even more awesome, since many, myself included, don't have access to these private trackers. Nevertheless, great job!

I just checked and it's coming up. Search for Drunken Master 2 and click BluRay torrents to make it easier.
