You, sir, are checked!

Well, we might have to forgo the rook exchange for now.

My rook shall enjoy a few moments of pleasure in the pleasure garden, sipping Chai tea and playing Mah Jongg amongst the exotic flora.

I'm tentatively assuming that you meant "check" by the plus sign, but in case you didn't, remember that only my dad can promote his pieces. If you wish, you can retract your move if promotion was your intention.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about the "no-promotion" rule, and that was my intent.  I don't need to take it back.  I'll stick with it.

"I think I will have pawn for lunch," thought the king...the king of the cannibal island...

I'm afraid I'm missing something.... Which piece has me under check?

You should be afraid...for it is the king...the king of the cannibal island!

Ohhh... I didn't realize your king had actually made the effort to waddle all the way over to my side.

He was a-waddlin' away from dear DE and his ne'er-do-well rook who was peeking at him from amidst the garden flowers...it was too creepy...

Isn't this then the part where I take your King?

Not sure how we can pull this off, but I've been thinking a bit about this game today, and it made me think of the simple game Fox and Geese.  You probably know it, but as a reminder, I have provided a link to the rules:

http://www.mastersgames.com/rules/fox-geese-rules.htm

Though not a perfect analogy, the game we are playing is similar to Fox and Geese.  We are facing a powerful fox (this time the fox has his own army of geese), while we outnumber him (and get two turns for his every one).  As an uneven game, it is impossible to strike a perfect balance, and correct play should always allow the geese to win in Fox and Geese.  One simply needs to cut off territory while protecting the geese from capture so that no new openings are made for the fox to escape to.  In Kokusai Sannin shogi, we need to make our job easier by employing a similar strategy: we have to cut off his territory.  Your dad will have to retreat towards his home base this next turn.  What I suggest we perhaps start doing is playing a very safe, slow game, not really engaging in battle so much as reducing territory available to your dad.  We should start at our common corner with defended pawn advances and proceed to push towards the Praetorian.  We must be careful to guard our advancing pieces and prevent holes from being exploited.

Anyway, just a thought.  Your dad is all over the place, and I don't know what else to do besides waiting for some horrendous blunder on his part.

"Plunk" went the pawn...as he dropped in just at dawn..."I think I'll stay here!" said the King, wondering what the morrow might bring...

Remember, you're under check from both of us, from two different directions, so you can't uncheck yourself with a pawn drop, unless you want the morrow to bring a hungry, cannibalistic, silver general over for breakfast.

You ruined my poem.

Suicide is discouraged in shogi. If your king is feeling depressed, perhaps you could negotiate with ender to remove his rook from the Pleasure Garden so your king can take a brief vacation thereabouts.

Well that would be fantastic...!because then I'd win the game...

LOL, I forgot about that. Regardless, your king can't cozy up with darth_ender's rook, so you need to go elsewhere....

I don't think the King is that sort anyway...

Actually his king is fine there.  Remember, an unpromoted rook moves backward like a bishop.  He's completely safe there.  But my rook would be happy to vacate the Pleasure Garden and pursue his voyeurism from a different spot.

EDIT: Ah, I see that your move was indeed safe for your king. Silly me.

Ric, it's a legal move.  See my above post that you probably missed since we were posting simultaneously.
