Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 502

Why is there no mkv with DTS-HD lossless audio for Return Of The Jedi Despecialized?

If you look at the versions and release dates, you'll see that ROTJ version 1.0 was released long ago, and 2.x is still in the works--so it hasn't yet gotten either the audio or video facelifts that the other films have.

You'll also see it has its own project thread.  This one is for Star Wars ;)

Truly breathtaking work on this, mate! Always negged on fan restorations until v2.5, so infinite thanks go to you and your counterparts. My loyalty to nostalgic antecedents utterly outstrips the exceptional (yet creatively tarnished) remastered quality of the SW blu-rays. This is the only SW, ALL OTHER VERSIONS ARE DEAD TO ME!

QUERY 1:
Just want to ask why there exists a duration differential of ~00:00:05 between the MKV (02:01:50) and AVCHD (02:01:45) releases? (I loved watching it on my comp so transferring it to a home cinema viewing is definitely stage 2.) Anyway, is this something to do with timings affected by compression to get it down to a DVD9 containable size? I'm pretty sure that's not the case but I thought I'd ask.

QUERY 2:
Is there any upside to directly muxing the 17.8gb MKV to BD ISO and putting the resulting directory on a blank BD rather than getting the reduced AVCHD for DVD? The drop in size from 18gb to 8gb seems intense but I have little esoteric knowledge in this area so I thought I'd ask. (Is it similar to the audiophile argument between FLAC and 320kbps when most find no discernible difference etc?)

The bigger encode should look somewhat better, but its not a huge difference. The other difference between the two is lossless audio and foreign dubs. If you want those, burn a BD. If not, the AVCHD is fine (and is ready to burn.)

Duel (1971) - The Hybrid Cut

Actually, this makes a whole lot of sense given the audio was the first difference I noticed on the AVCHD. Thanks for the fast reply. Much appreciated!

Remuxing the MKV to BD is easily doable (that's how I watch Star Wars v2.5 and Empire v2.0), but you'll need to cut down on the audio tracks, otherwise you won't be able to mux it into a usable BD folder. For me, I kept all the English-language tracks, the isolated score, and all the commentaries, dropping all the foreign audio as I don't have a need for it.

I used mkvmerge to make a new MKV with the audio and subtitle tracks I wanted, then fed the new MKV into tsmuxer to make my BDMV folder, and finally use imgburn to burn my BDMV folder to a BD-R. I don't know if you can bypass the mkvmerge step or not, I didn't try feeding the original MKV directly into tsmuxer.

I used TS Muxer and made functioning BDs of both SW and ESB for a friend with all of the sound tracks intact.

Thanks Erik for the detailed response; I don't think the merge is necessary as I got it to work dumping it directly into TM. However, this might be a reflection of my blu-ray player, which is pretty lenient when it comes to BD.

Thanks Harmy, I might hold off from further burns until ROTJ or a fully fledged SW BD release. The versions look exceptional on my HTPC. XOXO

Hello! I'm not good in english that well. Can some people help with how to download? Very thanks.

I have done this as well and have had no issues. Thank you for  suggesting it way back when my friend.

Oh, neat. Didn't know you could keep all the audio tracks and get tsmuxer to mux a working BDMV folder. I guess I never tried, though (and I have no need for the foreign audio tracks myself).

Yeah, I ended up keeping the MKVs as were and removing the foreign audio support with MakeMKV - such a useful and lightweight app. I love MKVs, in fact I never knew much about them until the despecialized stuff; them being containers and simply re-arranging stuff around when you rip BDs. So good.

ALSO: I forced my mates to watch the 2011 and despecialized of SW back to back with me and they couldn't tell which one was the official release as per quality, transfer, remastering etc. They don't know (or care) much about the changes so it was a good test to gauge purely the visual grade of v2.5. /GG

Well, this is my first post in this forum (hey, hello everybody!) and I would have loved to buy a SW BD of the original version (I've got the VHS tape but no recorder anymore) and searched in vain hours and hours for it, until I realized that thanx to Lucas (%?!#&) this BD never existed and maybe never will...

My son is 7 1/2 and very fond of rockets, space ships, the ISS and space in general. I saw SW as I was 10 and my jaw dropped open. It changed my whole life. Now I want to pass over this feeling to my son and I am looking forward to see the movie again with him.

So finally I have stumbled across this site... Saw a clip of the Despecialzied Edition on YT. And got that dammned problem with my jaw again...

Thanx Harmy for this incredible work, thanx...

Download of 2.5 isn't finished yet but I noticed a comment on the 1st post, that the german dub is out of sync and that there is a correct version of it somewhere but I can't find any link.

Can anybody help me please?

Not many friends will still talk to you after you force them to watch the 2011 Blu-rays. I'd say these friends are keepers... assuming they're still friends.

I grabbed the adware-free Jdownloader link someone provided in the thread earlier, but it's giving me a "Wrong Java Version" error. Is there some way to get a adware free version that works with the latest java version?

Hey everybody, first time poster.

I, like many many others, have been reading and researching the despecialized editions for a while now. I'm interested in purchasing in some way copies of these if possible on blu ray or any format really. I've tried several download links but ran into some issues (pretty sure thats on my lack of computer skills and not the DL). If anybody can help me out I'd be really appreciative. Sure this is asked a 1,000 times a day but after reading so much on the forums I figured it was time I signed up and took a shot.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

No problem. I suggest looking into getting an invite to MySpleen. Look around for the thread in the Off Topic section.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

I don't think you understand.

MySpleen is a private torrent tracker (meaning you must be invited to set up an account and the .torrents it lists are permanently blocked from using any other peer discovery methods outside of the MySpleen tracker itself.)

Suffice it to say, what you should do (after having bought official copies of the Original Trilogy) is:

- get an invite to Myspleen and create an account,

- search MySpleen for "Harmy"

- download the v2.5 AVCHD of Star Wars, the v2.0 AVCHD of ESB, and the v1.0 AVCHD of ROTJ (as those are the lastest respective versions of each)

- buy blank Memorex DVD9's (or DVD-DL's)

- burn each AVCHD to a DVD.

- Enjoy watching them on your Bluray player.

.

.

You will likely not (and hopefully not) find anyone here who will sell copies of the Despecialized Edition to you. For one thing, to profit from this project is illegal. So, either they will give a copy to you entirely for free out of their own expense or else they will help you to do it yourself.

Most likely the latter. Not because we're jerks. But because I would imagine if anyone wanted to give out a copy, they'd want to do it properly and also include DVD or Bluray cases and labels both in the cases and on the discs.

I've always said that the mark of a good fan edit (or preservation/restoration in this case) is that it doesn't look fan made. Giving you a burned disc with Sharpie written on it in a cheap case with a post-it on it would seem to be half-assing it and I don't see the people here doing that for a project as wonderful and as important as this is.
