I considered it should no longer work, but if that were to be the case, all pawns pointed in that direction will be doomed.

Although all pawns start out being able to go towards either of the other two promotion zones. I would say that it is no longer a promotion zone, because there is no longer anything defending it, thus making it too easy to promote. All one has to do right now is paratroop or move a piece there and it is promoted, which is too easy.

True, they start out that way, but we are considering the present moment. It's only alternate purpose is thus to become a deadzone to any of the pieces too close to pull away.

I'm not sure if that adds greatly to the strategy right now.

Well, if you guys are in agreement, then let's do away with the promotion zone.  I agree, it's just too easy to promote.

Curses, my clever scheming isn't working out as well as I'd hoped.  +R-12st

Gotta head to work for a 12-14 hour shift of sheer madness.  See you in the morning.  I'll try to get a move in before I hit the hay.

Just go with the following comment, which I missed:

You know, though it seems illogical to me, I'd rather play the game as close to the correct rules as possible, and nothing indicates that the zones disappear.  Perhaps it won't be as big a deal as I thought.  We shall see.  But for now I'll say I'll go for keeping them.

My dad seems to be of the opinion that you should keep them, so you may as well, since your only disagreement comes from the guy who isn't affected by this...

I vote we keep the promotion zone as it is. It still requires a piece detour to take advantage of it, which can take a while for some.

It can be like a pilgrimage to Mecca or something...

Alright, I'm okay with that.  Let's go ahead and keep it then.

I've just sent my rookruitment officer into your camp.  Looking for some young, impressionable, hairy Amazons to join my army. ;)

If you're going to tell us you're joking, please also include your actual move.

Was his king ever in check?  If not, he can make a leaping castle move, remember?  I don't think we ever checked his king, did we?

Yes, us old codgers remember its advent during the flip phone era of the Gen Y crowd...

On a side note, it is my real move.

And I made my move, so it's your turn, Post.  Hope mine wasn't lost in your son's joke.  Sorry Ric.  I just didn't catch your little humor.  I remember using J/K as a teen. :)

Well, my joke was a bit of a stretch. Plus my generation is too lazy to use slashes and the shift key. ;)

I have to say, the knights are by far the most annoyingly useless pieces in this game.  They are so weak and so sideways, they are hard to use effectively.

It's all that heavy armor...all they can manage is a crab-walk.

As your two armies were fighting over the course of an undetermined, but certainly very lengthy period of time, technology advanced to the point of the creation of nuclear missiles. After much careful discussion, the leaders of a certain country (here unnamed to protect its identity) agreed to intervene in your war and launch a nuclear missile against Post Praetorian.

Their move is NMx10mn, 9lm, 9no, P11lm, S8kl, P10ij, P11jk

Checkmate. Please note that in this case, there was no capture, but rather complete annihilation. Congratulations to the winning party and condolences to the remnants of the less fortunate army.

As a reminder, though moving the king to the Pleasure Garden is a fun way to win, the king still may not enter check, even when promoted.  If that is your goal, remember you must block or remove my pieces that are guarding that cell.

And I hate to bring this up, but it still seems silly to me to keep Ric's promotion zone.  both our lances could promote at any time to a surprisingly powerful piece without any difficulty.

I will await your response before moving.  You may take back your last move if you feel your move of your king was wasted.

No, once His Majesty gets motivated enough to make a move he's gonna do it...thanks all the same...

As for promotion zones, we could shrink it to just the last row or allow pieces to reverse out without promoting or teleport them back to square one...anything to avoid the dead ending bit. Without something of the sort few of our pieces caught below the garden have much strategic value.

Also, if this is post-nuclear my side must now be zombies...or mutants...or mutant zombies!

Perhaps the best option would just to change their orientation so that they face the same way my pieces did. Of course, you'd have to mark them differently than the other pieces, but I can't imagine that would be anymore confusing than promoting them.
