Sorry to necro-post, but I'd really like to know if this is still available and where we can find it.  I tried to PM the original poster instead of reviving the thread, but it said his mailbox was full.

Hey FF,

I am considering re-upping this over at you know where.  May I have your permission to do so as long as they allow it?

Thanks

FanFiltration:

I'm curious if you still have your copy of the SLV LD's audio track? I'm currently working on my own version of this film and am seeking a hgher quality source than the low-bitrate DD tracks included in the DVD release. I'd use the one in your edit however I prefer working with lossless copies if possible.

Are you talking about MySpleen? I have been after this for ages now!

I don't like to mention certain places openly.  PM me if needed.  I have it ripped, I just need to make sure my net connection is solid before I upload and seed it.

I will delve into the vaults to see if I still have the PCM files. If not, I do still have the LASERDISC they came from. Or, I could just rip the soundtrack off my ST:TMP SLV DVD-R master. I think that was done lossless.

Excellent! I certainly appreciate the assistance : ).

On a related note, do you have the theatrical letterbox LD in addition to the SLV?

Update: another kind member here provided me with the theatrical LD's PCM track via a bit-perfect transfer, so I'm all set where that is concerned. All I need now is your SLV audio transfer and I'll have every version of the film's soundtrack that's appeared on home video (VHS aside of course) to use towards my edit : D.

I have the German VHS release of the TV-Version of ST:TMP. Would you like to have the audio track from it?

Author

Sure! It might have a few sections lacking dialog vs. the English versions that can work with : ).

I have not been able to locate the original lossless files. Not sure what happened, but I had moved three times since that project. Sorry about that.

Ah, understandable. In that case, would you be willing to re-record the SLV disc or lend to to another who could? The director's cut sound mix for the non theatrical scenes is  problematic due to added score and extra fx/ambiance added, hence why I'm seeking this soundtrack.

I'll hook up the old LD player, and contact you via PM when it's done.

Where can I acquire this special longer version of Star Trek: TMP? Preferably a version that works with iTunes.

If someone could PM a link to me, I would greatly appreciate it. This is my favorite cut of one of my favorite movies, and would love having a widescreen version.

I'm sorry, it doesn't work that way here.

Oh, really? And why is that?

This isn't the invite thread for said place, that is why.

I have the disc ripped.  I am awaiting my neighbors answer who happens to be a member of said place that sounds like "why sheen".  Members here will be the first to know.

As for the iTunes playable request, it won't be coming from me as I'm uploading the DVD5 release by FanFiltration.  You can always down load that and do the transcoding at home.  I just don't believe in watering down a fine ass project such as this.  I hope no one takes this to offense.

Cheers

Thanks Jetrell! I look forward to getting my hands on this. Goodby crappy VHS rip!

My bad, it's a DVD9 release ... I'm still not transcoding it for anyone.  It will be uploaded as is.

Synnöve, are you working on an HD reconstruction of the SLV?

I agree, a reconstruction would be nice. When I watched the original, it seemed to be deinterlaced with only half of the fields, giving it a jagged look. Also, I think a couple VFX fixes from the DE were left in.

(I'm specifically thinking of the shot of the Enterprise coming out of drydock, where the model's mounting pylon wasn't rotoscoped out in the original composite, and left a black "hole" in the drydock as it passed by. IIRC, FanFiltration's SLV has the DE recomposite where the pylon arm WAS roto'ed out.)

I had hope that this release would have had a v.2.  With the advances made and extra sources available I believe there could be a second attempt to make it more dynamic.

Plus, now that we have the La-La Land release of the music, a high quality isolated score track is now possible.

Just sayin'.

I wish I could do a HD version with the corrections included.

I just don't know anything about the newer ripping methods, video codecs, and how they work with Windows 7.  My SLV version was done on an old Windows XP computer.
