The NTSC version of the GOUT is missing one frame at that spot (which is a reel change) compared to the PAL version.  Since the audio is synched to the NTSC, there will will be a corresponding loss of synch in the Despecialized Edition at that point, with the audio being one frame ahead of the video.

We really need to be more vigilant about this kind of thing so there aren't any synch errors in the future.

Let's not beat around the bush here, we should be more vigilant but let's put blame where blame is due. It's obvious who deserves the blame for this. Like, all of it.

From the beginning to that spot, the audio is about 21 ms late (compared to Team Blu's GOUT upscale), and so from that spot to the end, it's 42 minus 21 ms early, so there's basically a 21 ms delay (late or early) in the whole movie, which is not that noticeable.

I am at a complete loss as to how on earth does one find out something is 21ms late?

I just had to apply the subtitle file I synchronized on your DeEd to Team Blu's GOUT upscale to realize there was this tiny delay. The software I use for subtitles shows the audio graph (I don't know how to call it in English). When I open the 2 videos in it, I see that a peak on the graph is not at the exact same time-code, but 21 ms later, that's it.

Maybe we can take this talk into its appropriate thread, Thanks.

Ok, I'm late to the party here gentlemen.  First post, but I've been trying to track down a DVD copy of the OT & 1997 SE for quite a while.  Heard whisperings of good things, which led me to this forum.

How would one go about making a purchase from Team Blu and having a box of awesome show up in the mail like vBangle had arrive in June?  (Understanding, of course, that they are not complete with the conversion of all the films yet.)

Is that something that can be aranged with dark_jedi via PM here?

Thanks fellas - I'm really excited to know there is hope at last.

vbangle is a huge supporter of the Team, this is why he gets ALL our releases, he has provided and still provides way more supplies, materials, and even hardware then anyone ever has to, he is a huge help, and a great supporter of what we do now and in the future.

vadertyme is also a huge supporter and receives all projects, I just needed to give him a shout out as well for all he has done and continues to do.

So a huge thanks to both of them for their support in all we need to get these done.

We also have 2 great Team helpers, Space Kaijuu helps me with audio, and our anonymous capper, so a special thanks to all these great guys listed.

Understood.  I appreciate and applaud his - and your - efforts to bring the hopes and dreams of all of us to fruition.

That being said, how does a layman such as myself view, enjoy, and pass onto others all the effort that you have put into bringing the films back in their unaltered glory?

I've seen the posts on here referencing myspleen and torrents - of which I'm completely ignorant.  Is that the only way to access your work?  My earnest hope is an actual disk to have on the shelf or gift to a kid.

My apologies if this has all been asked before - I just hate to think that what I've dreamed of for so long exists through your efforts, but I can't access it but for my own ignorance.

Thanks for your patience and all your hard work...

lol I just had to update my above post to include the other great helpers and Team supporters, I felt they needed to be mentioned as well.

Thanks

First time seeing this project and must say I'd love to get my hands on these (both GOUT AND 97). Would it be possible to get a package sent out like vbangle got (just for SW)? I do have access to MySpleen, but would like a package to show off on my DVD/BR rack. If an "arrangement" could be worked out, I'd love to have them.

Wouldn't it be easier to buy a case and blank blu-rays/dvds and download the covers?

Nah, the easiest thing to do is to ask the same thing the previous guy asked.

To dark-jedi: I can't thank you enough your SE preservation project. Your "Star Wars: A New Hope SE" version is amazing, and a present for anyone (like me) who believes that 1997's SE is the ultimate version of the classical trilogy. For me The SW blu-rays released by Lucasfilm  were a crap and a painful experience because I thought that lucasfilm was goin to use them as a way to mend the disaster that was the 2004 dvds. I felt  so happy when I finally could whatch your Episode IV version, It was a dream come true . That is why your project is a real "New Hope". Thank you very much again. I'd like thank peter pan and walkingdork for their help also.

Apologies in advance for irritating any regulars with this inquiry, but I have searched over several days, and cannot for the life of me discern on which site(s) the '97 SE links are located. Are they even still active anywhere out there? On almost every related thread I read, I see people going on about Team Blu's SE's, and I always wind up back here, yet even in this thread's OP, it reads, "Availability - Coming Soon!"

Would one of you fine folks please enlighten me on the current status of said projects?

Thanks.

Go to myspleen.org and register for an account (registrations are open without an invite right now so be quick).

On the spleen you will find: 1. the TB release which is a PAL DVDR set of Scandnavian broadcast recordings of the 1997 SE, 2. the G'Kar release which is a PAL DVDR set of German broadcast recortings of the 1997 SE, 3. the 5-star bootleg DVD9s, 4. Team Blu's Star Wars Episode IV 1997 SE, 5. Harmy's respecialised Episode IV. And there are some others, but those'd be the main ones you'd want to look at.

Alternatively you can try a.b.sw.

Thanks for the reply, RU-08.

I'm already on MySpleen and have searched around there. I know of Harmy's ANH edition and the various European ones, but I am specifically looking for NTSC versions of TB's ANH, ESB, and ROTJ '97SE, which I am unable to find.

What is a.b.sw.?

As I mentioned, TeamBlu's ANH is on the Spleen, it's a BD25 release @ 23.97fps 720p (i.e. NTSC). As far as I know they haven't released ESB and ROTJ yet, so you'll have to wait. I don't ever burn BD's so if I downloaded that version I would copy the main .m2ts file, rename it to something suitable, and put it in my media library and stream it.

You can get some of the other versions on the Spleen. It would be fairly straightforward to convert them to NTSC - I don't have them myself though.

Also, don't confuse yourself by saying "TB" when you mean TeamBlu - the "TB version" refers to the Scandinavian broadcast version, not TeamBlu's. :)

a.b.sw = alt.binaries.starwars, the newsgroup where you can find more 1997 SE postings.
