If Vader had won the Mustafar duel

Author

Vader was the most powerful being in the force, or so it would've been if he hadn't been killed by Obi Wan's plot armor. But if Anakin had actually won the duel, how would the OT have turned out? How long would Vader have learned from Palpatine until inevitably killing him and turning into the final Dark lord of the Sith? Would Luke have been able to stop his father if he had fully immersed himself in the darkside under the Emperor's tutelage? Would there really have been anyone that could stop him?

Obi Wan won because he was the better Jedi. It seems very backward to look at what actually happened in the film, and through some kind of lens say its 'wrong'.

That being said, if Annie had won, its likely he would have been the one to raise Luke and Leia. He would have had a very different life.

As it happens, my friend wrote a version of this scenario into a story.

It is called One Missed Strike, and can be found here.

There is also a sequel, edited by me, which is even better.  Highlights include an evil alternate universe version of Leia, as well as our heroes working in an uneasy alliance with Grand Admiral Thrawn.  This can be found here.

Whether Vader won the fight or not, he was still an emotional wreck, a dark side dilettante, and a willing slave of the Emperor. His trajectory would not have changed very much. Yoda and Bail Organa would have come up with different arrangements for Luke, but that would not have changed Yoda's endgame of training him to assassinate Vader. It probably would've happened sooner, without Obi-Wan's sentimental notions of avuncular rights.

Oh, I can imagine ...

"Any attack made by the Rebels against this station would be a useless gesture no matter what technical data they've obtained. This station is now the ultimate power in the universe; I suggest we use it."

"Don't be too proud about this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force."

"Don't try to frighten us with your sorceror's ways, Lord Vader. Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the stolen data tapes or given you clairvoyance enough to find the Rebel's hidden fort --"

*forcechoke*

"You underestimate my power!"

"Enough of this! Vader -- release him!"

"But he started it!"

"Don't make me tell you again!"

"This is all Palpatine's fault! He's holding me back!"

How would they have gotten Luke? Anakin would have walked back over to Padme, seen her alive, and the kids would be in his hands.

Vader would have been so screwed if he had won that duel. Could you imagine the wrath of cyborg Obi-wan?
