It was difficult keeping quiet about it, but I'm at a stage now where I'm gearing up for a preliminary release. I've updated my first post.

Oh, me me me me me!

I will gladly use your real name in my credits going forward since you prefer that.

Being a stickler for consistency, I'd lean towards keeping it as it is in your future edits. I think my OCD would explode otherwise. ;)

Anyway, to make it clearer where I'm at currently; I've now sorted almost all my sounds into the relevant folders. The Narrowing down is definitely the biggest hurdle to overcome as there are so many of the same sounds across different sources with varying quality, but once they were all properly categorised it doesn't look quite so daunting anymore.

I still have some gems I keep finding (for instance, last night I went into the files for 'Episode 1 Racer' just looking for the sound of Watto humming the Cantina theme and found a whole bunch of Watto dialogue not seen in the films.

Thankfully 90% of my sounds are already in WAV format, so not that many need to be converted.

I'll be releasing this as Version 1.0 due to the fact the Official Soundboards are updated every once in a while plus there's the possibility that I'll keep finding stuff.

Oh and I refuse to include the dialogue of 'Ziro The Hutt' on principle. If anyone wants his dialogue they can get it themselves :p

Watto humming the Cantina theme

That made me always chuckle, I loved the game ;-)

yeah, big collections tend to get a little chaotic, and over the years you get more stuff, it duplicates - having files in all sorts of quality and format isn't helping to build a database ...

The voice of the drunk in this film (which contains Norwegian cussings) must be treated for anonymity sake but does sound like a great alien voice.

hehe, sounds a little like the "Alien" in MiB (at the beginning, when they catch illegal bordercrossers)

hm, they pixeled his face, could they have manipulated his voice too?

if so, then a realistic sounding "alien" would be very easy to accomplish ;-)

I tried to fake some Jabba lines (as Windows sounds), you just need to know how and what "tools" you need ...

Hey guys. I'm not dead - not yet. I've been gearing up to releasing this thing but I keep finding more and more stuff to add. Some of it is pure gold.

To address Bingowings' post, I've grappled with the idea of putting non-Star Wars dialogue in my archive, and I've come to the conclusion that there's just too much of it in the world to gather and sort through. The resources you could draw from either for generic voices or "alien" voices are literally endless, and if I started including them I'd feel like the archive would be permanently on half.

Obviously, this doesn't apply to alternative dialogue for a particular actor. I've got lots of clean Christopher Lee dialogue for instance that isn't from anything Star Wars related. It could be VERY handy and there are some real gems in there.

I'm not even sure if I should include the numerous voices from the Star Wars games. Yes, the voices often discuss lots of in-universe stuff, but if you're re-dubbing a background character whose lips aren't even in frame, do you really need to redub them at all? The only voices I can see being useful in this regard are those of masked villains (to redub Grievous and the like).

Having said this, some of them may be useful for comlink chatter I suppose.

There are also some impersonators of our principal characters from the games. Again, I'm not sure if there's any benefit to including these as they aren't useful for redubs as it's not the correct dialogue, nor are they useful for cutaways as they aren't very good impersonations.

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts.

an extra sound/voice library for PT edits would be cool, for example if one likes to keep "Dooku" (or just change his mood), maybe turn him "good"

reading the "ideas/radical redux" threads - I really would like to use the better(!) voices of the Super/Battle Droids from "Republic Commando", they were menacing and not funny at all ...

extra/new dialogue for "Anakin" (Sebastian Shaw? / James Franco!) or "Obi-Wan" (Alec Guiness/Ewan McGregor) could help tweak that beast to sound more like a Star Wars trilogy ;-)

Other than the clean voice files available for the OT, most of the voice component of my archive is tailored for PT use anyway. Editors seem less inclined to do such drastic changes as redubbing when it comes to the OT.

I'd love to get even a 0.9 release sooner rather than later - really looking forward to this.

Any ETA (a dangerous thing in this forum I know!).?

yeah, in general that will be the case, it would be only interesting for special edits (of OT) where you need the classic sounds

I've learnt from previous mistakes not to commit to any sort of deadline anymore. I'd HOPE that it'll be released this year, but for every new bunch of sounds I find, the more converting/sorting there is to do. I have quite a backlog now and still more games to dive into the voice files of.

I can always use more (clean) OT sources.  I plan on moving on to the OT after I'm done with the PT.

On the one hand, the more you include the better.  I have spent ages trying to edit together a few new lines for the OT and ended up with something far less than perfect.

On the other hand, I can't wait for this to be finished so the sooner the better.  But even if you had a mostly organised and then a random other sounds file for all the pieces you aren't sure about including, something which you see no real use for could inspire someone to do something random so I say include everything you have.  We will all just have to be patient a little longer.

I'm interested, but as far as I understand, there is no form of a (n unfinished) release yet?

Darth Id on ‘Why “Ben”?’:

And while we’re at it, we need to figure out why they kept calling Mark Hamill’s character “Luke Skywalker,” since it’s my subjective opinion that his name is actually Schnarzle Shnuzzle.  It just doesn’t make sense!

Damn you George Lucas for never explaining why they all keep calling Schnarzle “Luke”!

Damn You!!!

No unfinished release. I am trying to get it done, but more keeps getting added. Plus home improvements are taking up much of my time at the moment.

I work on this in my spare time, and spare time has become increasingly scarce lately. I know not long ago I'd said I was gearing up for release, however that may have been a bit premature. Sorry everyone.

Ok, then I hope you won't disappear from this forum before you can release it ;)

Just an update. This project is not vaporware, I promise. :p A resource I expected to be released in December hasn't been released yet, so I'll need to wait for that to come out as the sound files in this product are going to be a great asset.

As I'm now also helping out with Star Wars: Revisited in a small capacity, I'm extra motivated to get this done so Adywan can make use of them. I've already found something for him in my archive that he had given up on ever finding, so it's good to know it will be useful to people.

Hope everyone had a great new year!

Greetings. Quick question: I found a download of the sound effects from the Star Wars Trilogy CD-ROM. The clips are cut off slightly at the end. I know that the CD is old and is characteristic of computer games, but does anyone have a better rip of those sounds? Full and not chopped? Thanks.

How did I never open this thread before???  Great stuff.  Hoping this will see the light of day soon.  I have been tinkering with some fan editing ideas, finally trying to get my feet wet a bit, and this would be extremely helpful.  Any ETA at this point?

Author

Hey. No ETA at this point. I do dip back into it occasionally but there are some resources I've been waiting for that haven't materialised so I may have to just push ahead without them. One resource in particular was the Battle of Five Armies DLC for the Lego Hobbit game, which would have featured a load more clean Christopher Lee dialogue (as well as having dialogue in the movie, he also does the entire story narration), but Warner Bros have recently announced that they're leaving the game incomplete. Dick move.
