Amadeus - Theatrical Cut Restoration 1080p (V3 Now Available) — Page 2

Wow! This is going to be fantastic!  I love the original Theatrical release and at the age of 9 (!), this introduced me to Mozart and classical music in general (and also the cinema, along with "Star Wars"). I can't wait and I'm very ecstatic.

Was the Dolby Digital track in stereo? If the movie-only LD track was sharing the analog channels with the AC-3 track, it would only be in mono (but still might be worth having if the fidelity is better than the DVD's track).

Was the commentary track on the Director's Cut based on the one from the PSE but with new material recorded for the extended footage, or is it a completely separate commentary with the same people, à la Robocop?

I will add my voice to the multitudes chiming in: this is a really exciting project. While I have lamented the replacement of the theatrical with the Director's Cut, I didn't realize how much I missed this version until this thread.

It was, after all, the 1984 cut which won all o' them there awards.

If anyone knows where I can find the laserdisc audio (specifically PCM stereo), then I'd appreciate it.  V2 is ready to go except for that track.

This sounds amazing! Like a lot of other people the theatrical version is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, movies of all time. Getting to see it in high-def will be wonderful. Thank you for your efforts!!!

(New addition to the forum who found it because of a search for 'Amadeus theatrical cut' but excited to be here for everything else going on!)

Hey Jimbo, nice one for doing this, it's been something I've hoped would be tackled by a fan for a while.

Definitely down for version 2 whein it's ready.

Another big thanks in advance over here. I never really thought Amadeus got the best treatment on home video, and it only got worse with the Director's Cut.  Can't wait to see something to reverse that trend!

Thanks.  I have a lead or two on the laserdisc audio, which I hope to incorporate.

I've made a bunch of tiny edits, which pretty much gets it completely synced to the DVD 5.1 mix.  What I want though is the PCM theatrical mix.  If it falls through, then I will release version 2 with just the 5.1 DVD mix.

Hopefully you won't have to. It will be nice to have the original 35 millimeter Dolby Stereo mix, which I think the original laserdisc is. I'm not sure about the PSE (is the AC-3 track the 70 millimeter mix?), but I think it might be as well.

Very new to the forum, and I seem to be missing something. Did anyone post where to go to actually download this? I didn't see anything that looked like it from reading the thread.

I'm a huge fan of Amadeus, and very psyched to find this discussion. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Audio options I hope to include in Version 2:

3) Isolated score mix (from 1997 DVD, or replaced with Pioneer track if superior)

The Pioneer Special Edition gatefold laserdisc (1996) is shown at LDDb.com as ..

Does it mean (if this listing is accurate) that the music-only soundtrack is monaural, even if it is better audio (uncompressed, etc.)?

As the Dolby Digital track is in the right analog channel, yes.

Where were you in '77?

OK, if it's mono AND analog, maybe it's indeed a wash vs. the DVD. (I don't know why I didn't figure out already that it had to be mono if it was analog left...)

I really should check my 1997 DVD and see if the isolated score there is true stereo...

Hi jimbotron235,

congratulations on this awesome project! I can't wait to have version 2.0 with the LD audio,

And in that regard, were you able to get the PSE LD? Also, are you able to do bit perfect captures of the LD audio tracks?

I am a huge fan of the theatrical cut, but have only the flipper from 1997...please advise on where to find this version. Very much appreciated.

Those FM analog tracks were capable of very good quality, and if both are mono, the analog might sound better than a compressed Dolby Digital track. Stereo would trump mono, though.

Hi,

Looking for the link to download this project.

Love Amadeus.  I bought the flip DVD just to have the Theatrical Cut and not the Director's Cut.  No Idea why they don't release it.  Considering no one saw the Director's Cut, it made now sense not to release the Theatrical Cut.  Even Lucas caved and released the Theatrical version of Star Wars on DVD - thought it did not receive any special treatment.

If anyone would be kind enough to direct me in the direction of this restoration,  I would be most greatful.

Also, what is the status of 2.0? There hasn't been an update in awhile.

I myself will be waiting until 2.0 is completed, but I am very interested to see it when it is finished.

Thanks, SilverWook. I've been looking around, before and after, for laserdisc audio information but everything I find is rule-of-thumb or just plain incomplete.

Would you (or anyone else) know if such a single, analog channel can hold something like an FM-stereo signal (which is supposed to be multiplexed analog) for, ultimately, stereo output coming from that one analog channel?

I don't mean this theoretically. Rather, could this Amadeus channel be stereo? And is it actually stereo? (Sorry for the ignorance. I just don't know much about laserdisc details.)
