Really?  For me it just endlessly pivots in a loop forever.  And I examined all the frames in it and there is only 7  and none of them include it finishing.  That's beyond weird...  Guess it has a few frames my computer is allergic too. Weird, because the loop is near seamless for me.

 Yeah, that's the explanation

Oh I just heard from my best friend and he said that completely by chance his dad got these exact same cables this week and just like in my case they set his hard drive on fire,so avoid these things people!

What i want to know is what are the odds that we would both get the same cables the same week and have the same problem?  This is getting X files level strange now people.

As I much as I enjoy the X files, that's a huge problem I have with it... Mulder treats every mundane coincidence as if there were a conspiracy involved. Granted, in universe, there is, but it seems to have made some people in real life feel justified jumping to the same conclusions.

That being said, that is a pretty odd coincidence that you both got the same cables by chance. These kinds of odds freak me out sometimes, like I was walking down the street today and passed a car with the license plate XGF 3A2. I mean, what are the chances that of all the license plate numbers I could have seen it was that one?! ;)

P.S. Thanks for the advice, I hate hard drive fires

I think it means people simply gravitate towards the same items on sale, and the manufacturer needs to do a massive recall before someone gets hurt and sues the hell out of them.

You'll be singing a different tune once the Colonists put you on the kids' menu and the Cigarette Smoking Man starts using the top of your skull as an ashtray.

If it's any consolation, Scully's the skeptic of the team, so she's always there to balance out Mulder's crackpot theories with more rational explanations.

Thankfully I probably don't have to worry about getting new teeth for at least a couple years.

Yeah but the show wouldn't be any fun to watch if she were right.

That brings me to the only thing I don't like about The X Files. After a couple of years I have to ask "Why are you still such a skeptic Scully?!"  I mean how many times to you have to be kidnapped, exposed to an alien virus, see monsters in the sewers,or come face to face with killers who are over a hundred years old before you will start listening when Maulder tells you something strange is going on?

It's fine in the first season but after a while I have to wonder if Scully even remembers the events of past episodes when she tells Mulder that some idea he has is too crazy.  I mean after all the stuff that has happened to her I don't think anything should count as crazy, the xfiles universe is crazy.

In hindsight, they probably should have

A. Had Scully become significantly less skeptical of the paranormal somewhere around Season 3/5.

or

B. Written some (more?) episodes where apparent paranomal activities were hoaxes/misidentified natural phenomena/etc. to help justify her unwavering skepticism.

Of course, I don't mind Scully's hardline skepticism all that much, silly though it gets at times. My pet peeve with the series is with how poorly the mytharc was developed and executed.

Yeah either one of those would have fixed the problem.  I mean I like Scully but at the same time after a while I have to wonder if she has been part of the same story I have been watching.  I mean there is being a skeptic and then there is looking at the sky and calling it red, that it what I felt like Scully was doing after a few seasons of something weird happening to Mulder and Scully every single week.

I think the problem with the mytharc is that it was only ever meant to be hinted at when the show was developed, but as it became more popular with viewers it became the focus of the show.  From what I understand the show was supposed to be mostly a monster/strange event of the week type show but the mytharc episodes started getting better ratings then those so that is what the writers started focusing on.  the only problem is there was no blueprint and there wasn't anyone writer who knew what was going on so it kind of fell apart.

Still it does say something about how good The X files was i think that these problems that would kill most shows for me didn't kill The X Files.  I still love the show and just wish certain things had been done a little better but over all it is still one my favorite shows.

I think the strength of the series lies in the characters. As lame as some of the stories of the later seasons often became, Mulder, Scully, Skinner, Krycek, Gigarette Smoking Man, X, the Lone Gunmen, etc. were all perfectly developed and executed that it was a joy just to watch the episodes for them alone.

Scully did become less skeptical as the show went on.

A great series with similarities to X-Files was Kolchak, the Night Stalker.  Instead of Mulder and Scully it was Kolchak and Vincenzo.  Campy and fun, less dark, but lots of coverups and conspiracies.  Awesome music, too.

I believe the creator of the X-Files acknowledged the influence of Night Stalker on the show.

I first saw it when CBS was running it late at night on Fridays in the mid 70's. Good creepy hide under the blankets fun!

Many people remember Darren McGavin as the dad in A Christmas Story, but he will always be intrepid reporter Carl Kolchak to me.

Other shows with a similar vibe are Project UFO and the BBC's The Ωmega Factor.

The first being supposed blue book cases dramatised the second being about a bunch of experts investigating the paranormal but with a sinister organisation acting as overseer to the seemingly unconnected cases.

Project UFO was sunday lunch viewing for me but the one showing of The Ωmega Factor scared the crap out of me. Partly because I knew the Edinburgh locations so well.

Both are well worth a look.
