I think that's because the idea is that these people don't live on earth, and thus mostly don't have the same names we do. I know plenty of kids with names more exotic than that, because they aren't European. I've never had a problem with funny names, because there are even funnier ones in real life.
For instance, there was a kid in my grade 7 class with a seventeen letter first name. He usually shortened it to Sisan for other people's benefit, but it beats most of those Star Wars names in terms of exoticity (is there a better word for that?).
