The characters in the OT had normal names. Luke, Ben, Han, Leia, Lando. But in the PT and EU (what little I know of both) the new characters all seem to have silly sci-fi type names. Seems goofy to me.
I'm pretty sure that trend will continue into the ST.

You may not know anyone by that name, but it is a real name.
And Obi-Wan isn't that weird. Sounds Asian and he's a weird wizard so he gets a pass on having a weird name.

As for Anakin, yeah, that's a weird one, but an occasional odd name doesn't bother me. Maybe the EU isn't as bad about this as I believe, but it seems every character has some weird name, where as in the OT the main cast had normal names.
