Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1 — Page 31

I have been looking through the posts but am not seeing it (and the information is not in the first post as it was for the other releases), is there an MD5/SHA available for the ROTJ release? What is the proper file size for each of the ROTJ releases?  I am working to see if I can get a MySpleen invite, but nothing yet, and I want to ensure I have the correct file as the releases I see are much smaller than they were for SW or ESB, which looks correct, but I wanted to confirm. Is it possible someone would be able to shoot me an email with the NFO file (I like having the originals as best I can) and could anyone enlighten me on the proper file structure, naming, and contained files? Sorry to be so precise, anything helps really, the biggest thing is the filesize and crypto sums.

Thanks,

Limerick

When I got v1.0 from tehP in 2011, the rars contained ISO image of 8,460,697,600 bytes.
CRC/SFV was EEA9D6FE; MD5 was b530ffd554007480570669a69fdfeed0

If you go to tehP today you'll be led to rars containing BDMV folder.
The big m2ts file is 8,459,649,024 bytes.
CRC/SFV is 96293032, same as the one in the ISO,
whose MD5 is 38512e238756297acbcd7549b1808686

As for 'official' NFO file, I'm not sure one exists.
Neither rar set contain one, nor the 'spleen torrent.
There was NFO file posted to usenet, but I'm guessin' it was copy/pasted from Post_306 of this thread, or from tehP

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI - DESPECIALIZED EDITION HD

This is a cut which is very close to the 1983 theatrical version of ROTJ except for some of the cleaned up original VFX (a list of changes with picture comparisons and explanations of how the shots were despecialized coming soon).

SOURCES:

1) Star.Wars.Episode.VI.Return.of.the.Jedi.1983.720p. HDTV.x264-DON (2004 SE)

2) Dark Jedi's 720p upscale of the GOUT.

3) 1997 SE DTV capture (G'Kar)

I did an extensive shot by shot colour correction and although the colours may not be 100% perfect, I'm really quite satisfied with them.

I have a question about a couple of shots in Jedi 1.0. First, right before the scene wipes to the Sail Barge, the aliens are leaving Jabba's Palace and everything kind of slows down for a brief moment. I'm assuming this had something to do with removing the SE footage transitioning into the added shot of the desert with the Banthas or to keep the audio in synch. For 2.0, would that shot just remain as is, or could it transition to GOUT for those few frames, or would that part have to be despecialized with some type of 35mm footage?

Also, during the Yub Nub celebration, there are several jump cuts during the scene. Was that to edit around SE footage? I know that during most of the scene it smoothly transitions from 2004 to GOUT footage. Is this something that you'll collaborate with TN1 with, or will that have to wait for a future release?

The sail barge transition I know was due to a few frames being trimmed for the new wipe.  Since taking frames from the GOUT resulted in a significant drop in quality, Harmy opted for the slowdown effect using HD frames only.  Even without access to better sources for those missing frames (which might be in the works), Harmy experimented with a better method for handling missing frames with the Han-Greedo conversation in SW 2.x (I think it was a "flow" something function in AviSynth, like frame interpolation on TVs, but not as artificial looking when you keep the framerate the same).  He eventually got better sources so didn't need to use the other method, but I think even under the worst-case scenario, there's still ways to make this transition more natural without new source material.

I already have the other 2 films with DTS HD lossless sound! When is return of the Jedi will be available with lossless sound? Can't wait :)

As soon as I get around to doing it, and as soon as Harmy gets enough 35mm footage to properly despecialize RotJ in high-def.

The one thing in v1 that stuck out the most to me as a concern was this shot:

There is jitter between the sarlacc's mouth and and the outer portion of the shot.

EDIT: Nevermind that the corners of the frame on this screenshot are curved. I just googled to find this image, as I am at work and don't have the film on hand to screenie it myself.

That shot would probably require 35mm to look as good as the other sarlacc shots. Still though, if the "jitter" was fixed then I think the GOUT would be acceptable enough for that shot. I believe all of the sarlacc shots were despecialized with the GOUT and they look pretty great, but most of those shots usually weren't taking up as much of the frame as this one, plus the sarlacc wasn't really moving in those either.

Yeah, that was a tough one - I think I could be able to stabilize it better this time but I hope to have a 35mm source for it anyway.

I actually hope to ideally have a 35mm source for everything and for v2.0 I plan to just do a quick cleanup of the whole shots without trying to rotoscope them into the BD footage and then for v2.5, I plan to use those cleaned shots to actually despecialize the BD shots where it's likely to give better results (like the Sarlacc and the eyebrows) because integrating the 35mm shots into the BD shots will be much harder than just cleaning them up, since the 35mm shots will likely have to be stabilized manually frame by frame, so that they have the same weave as the BD shots.

Sorry, but do you mean that for 2.0 you plan to clean up the existing shots, or just replace the existing GOUT shots entirely with your 35mm sources?

Umm Chyron,  what you googled there is most certainly not in v1 of the movie...
The corners decidedly would not be my main concern....  Jitter might be up there though...

I suggest you reread his post, as you have clearly misunderstood it.

I meant that I googled that shot to give a visual reference of what shot I meant. I  didn't  specifically Google the DEED.

Let's not underestimate how concerned people can get about rounded corners.

I'm really excited for Jedi 2.0. The thought of 35mm Lapti Nek is just incredible. Harmy, was the entirety of some shots replaced with 35mm in the Star Wars Mos Eisley sequence? I have my suspicions on a couple shots but I honestly can't tell for sure. If that's how seamless the 35mm looks then I'm not too worried about integrating it into Jedi

Yes and in several shots in ESB as well. Plus it seems that the Jedi prints are nicer than the ones used in SW and ESB.

Any sneak peek into the development of v2.0 at this point, Harmy? ;-)

I have a DVD-DL lined up and ready to be burned with the AVCHD version haha
