How they hell did this turn out so great?

The guy who directed this wrote three horrible scripts the two scooby doo movies and the dawn of the dead remake.

Well in this case he was always the director and that helps a lot.  Writers don't have a lot of power in Hollywood,it's the directors who are able to change things on a whim that hold the real power.  There is a reason every Micheal Bay movie is exactly the same and exactly as bad no matter who the credited writers are.

The last film he created, wrote and Directed was 2010's fantastic 'Super', that's how ;-)

Yeah, the Scooby movie was on Cartoon Network last weekend, and I did a double take when I saw Gunn's credit. Turns out he did stuff for Troma even.

You can't always predict what someone will achieve based on their past work. If somebody had told me back in the early 90's the director of Bad Taste and Meet The Feebles would go on make the LOTR trilogy, I would have had my doubts. ;)

Movie scripts are frequently rewritten by other people though. Unions and studio politics often dictate who gets final credit, or blame.

The Footloose reference in the movie suddenly makes more sense. ;)

I need to find a copy of this now.

Watched it for a third time.

It keeps getting better, funnier and more emotional with every watch.

I was really appreciating Bradley Cooper's performance this time. Sure it's awesome and funny but it's also so touching and sad at times. The bit where Rocket is drunkenly crying, pouring his heart out and threatening to kill everybody all at the same time is wonderfully played. Nobody is going to give Cooper an Oscar for voicing a CGI Raccoon but they should.

Oh and I didn't know I wanted to see it, until I saw it but... Rocket and Groot drawn like Calvin and Hobbes, yay!

I know, right? I was a fan from the original comics, but I love the little furry bastard even more now.

It's the little quiet moments that get to me too.

Rocket all wet after the prison wash down, where Quill glimpses all the stuff that's been done to his body. It gives his drunken anguish over his existence later even more weight.

Rocket sobbing over Groot's remains, and Drax just quietly sits next to him, and starts petting him softly.

I don't think even Star Wars made me want to cry. Damn you, James Gunn! ;)

The movie left my area, I missed it. :-(

Really? That sucks. It's still in the top three at the box office even. Passed the $300 million mark too.

All the theaters near me only have the 2D version now though.

Moviefone lied!  It's still at a theater close to me. Though, I hope it's still there on Friday.

Try Fandango. It's usually accurate about what's playing near you, and you can check tomorrow's listings.

Thank You SilverWook, it will still be at my local theater all next week! It's just the normal digital version, but I have a personal issue / problem with viewing 3-D anyways. I also just found out that we have an actual all digital drive-in movie showing it here in Vegas ( http://movies.msn.com/showtimes/showtimes.aspx?theater=614&th=614 )  How could I live here a whole year and not know something like this existed so close to me?

I normally don't give a crap about Blu Ray steelbooks, but this is pretty cool.

Yeah normally i hate those things because they get damaged so easily and you can't just put the artwork in a different case but I have to admit that is pretty cool.
