I have decided to alter the rules and allow all in the UK to vote in this poll, otherwise I don't think there'd be many votes cast here.

Not good enough! I demand that you extend this vote to all people in the Commonwealth!

*sigh*   Why should people in Canada be able to vote in this poll?

Because we used to be directly under British authority and thus have empathy with the Scots, that's why!

Why would people in the non-Scot UK? They really shouldn't have all that much more of a say in it than anyone else over the Scot's decision whether or not to rule themselves.

My family is from England 12 generations back, so yes I'm English and will vote, thank you very much. Scotland's kind of weird because they wear kilts (and I think that's all they do? oh wait they play bagpipes) so I don't want them to be part of the UK anymore but on the other hand all the people I know with the name "Scott" are cool so maybe they should stay.

I guess I will abstain.

people in non-Scot UK are not eligible to vote in the real referendum, but I am allowing here cause othewise there wouldn't be much a vote in this poll.  The non-Scot UK are more affected by the decision than non-Scots elseware in the world.   They are also probably more aware of the issues involved in this decision than someone from outside the UK.

So was my country, yet I am not allowing myself or other Americans to vote in the poll.

Not far enough.  The United States were once under British rule, though we are not part of the Commonwealth.  Think of so many poor Arab nations.  Think of the residents of Gibraltar, the Falkland Islands, and the Virgin Islands (UK).  Think of poor Burma.  Certainly they all deserve a voice in the future of Scotland!

Oh, and I think sKot who is so into preserving The Holiday Special should get two votes.

Too late, I already voted twice.

Are you going to ID us?  I thought you thought such measures were racist in nature.  What if I'm a Scottish citizen living in the States?

I'm not a Scot (I'm from the U.S.), but my name is Scott, so I consider myself highly qualified to discuss this topic.  And so, I'd just like to echo something I heard on the radio this morning on this issue.... the whole independence from Britain thing may be scary, but it worked out mostly ok for us.

Also I am part of the Commonwealth (of Massachusetts, bitch) so I am doubly qualified to vote (though I still abstain). However now that I think about it I'm here in the city that started the greatest independence movement of all times, so maybe I should vote with the Scots as I am sympathetic to their plight. On the other hand, my ancestors were loyalists and fought on the side of the Brits. So maybe I should be with them.

I guess I will continue to abstain.

Did I say imperialscum? I meant ImperialFighter.... :P

Yes, tis I that is Scottish too...and I can happily confirm that I currently reside in Scotland.

Anyway, I've added a few thoughts on some of the issues on the politics thread (which I never usually frequent), and came over here to let you know how I've decided to vote today...

After much careful thought and hand-wringing, here's what I decided - http://www.syp.org.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Aye-Naw-Mibbe-Logo-twiiter-2.jpg

(I'm not sure if my vote will swing things one way or the other, but either way, there's gonna be about half of Scotland *very* disenchanted come Friday morning)

Hey DC, don't forget that we eat haggis all day too...after we've exhausted ourselves running about trying to catch 'em. ;)

I was going to vote 'No' but due to the inherent bias in the wording of the question, I voted 'Yes'. Oh well there goes centuries of history.

What's biased about "Should Scotland be an independent country?" It can't be much more neutral than that.

The same sort of bias that the question "Should the United Kingdom stick together? Yes or no" has, although it's the same question as the one being asked at the polls today but would get a very different answer. Plus regardless of any question, people are more likely to vote 'yes', people like to say 'yes' to things.

It's one of the ways that the vote has been rigged in advance in favour of 'yes'.

Example of the massive effects of question bias...

Well just got back from voting for "Yes".

The Roger Dean album covers swayed me in the end.

irn-bru is a Von-Scot. I think he got a different persona when he lost his password.

The turnout is good (one station has already reached 100%). Where I am it looks a dead cert Yes vote but that's Falkirk for you.

If you were to go to (dum-dum-dum-dum)Dumfries it would be 100% No probably.

I would vote NO because I don't want the blue taken out of the best looking flag in the world :-)

Also, because we may have to rebuild Hadrian's Wall to keep the barbarians from coming back over here. Or is that a rumor ?
