SD-Quality/DVD reconstruction of the original theatrical version trilogy in the european PAL TV-Version fit for 16:9 TV-screens (* unfinished project *)

Hi!

I want to do a reconstruction of the original theatrical version of the old trilogy, for those how doesn’t need HD. And even more: I reconstruct a rare TV-Version, which was (like the most TV-broadcast of cinema-movies) zoomed from the original 2,35:1 aspect to 1,78:1 aspect, which fits the modern 16:9 TV-screen.

I’m using an old Video2000-Tape record from the German TV-Premier from 1990, from the channel Sat1, and a rare Bootleg-VHS-Transfer of some original 35mm-films from british cinemas, made on the late 1980s. Both PAL (and have the same 1,78:1 aspect) and the DVD will also be PAL but real 16:9 picture. For help and quality-upgrade I use the official PAL GOUT DVDs and for some color-correction Harmy’s HD version.

If anyone wants to join and have advices, please write me. I’m working on an apple iMac and for DVD-editing I use “DVD Studio Pro”, but I’m not very good at it. If anyone could tell me, how to make it perfect, it would be nice. For Video-Editing I don’t know if I should use Final Cut or Adobe Premier. I know Final Cut, but not 100%, and I’m jut beginning to learn Adobe Premiere.

It also would be great if someone could tell me how I make a perfect digital transfer of my Video2000 Tape, because I’m not happy with the Quality I’m getting out of it (remember: I just need SD-Quality for PAL DVD, but without blurry parts).

Wow! I haven't seen a video2000/VCC deck in a long time!

I would recommend a Blackmagic intensity card or external box for capture, and you may as well use Final Cut for editing, although I would look at Davinci Resolve Lite  11 for colour correction, it also now does editing as well, and is free!

My Video 2000 works great, it's a newer Grundig, I think one of the last in their production, but (also originally) without a remote control. I only have a drycleaning-cassette to clean it, it's enough.

Ooo, you might want to do some research and learn how to clean the heads properly.  Would probably do a better job and easier on the heads.
