Someone should try to contact James Earl Jones.  How righteous would that be?

I wonder if David Prowse is sufficiently disgusted that he might want to do it?

 I have a better idea.

I would love to see that. It's also more likely than with David Prowse or James Earl Jones.

Guys, this isn't Star Trek Despecialized. What does George Takei have to do with Star Wars?

I'm meant mostly because of how active he is on the internet. Plus I'm sure he doesn't hate Star Wars just because he was in Star Trek.

I apologize if this is the wrong place for this.

I'm new here so bear with me :)

I am watching the DE v2.5 of Star Wars and I am wondering about a certain shot...

Right after he says "...Loosen up!" and then the Y-wing is destroyed from between 1:48:02 - 1:48:04 ... it seems in the lower left corner of the film (at least the MKV I'm watching), there is a triangle section of the screen that looks different. The triangle section gets bigger 3 or 4 times in the left corner. Looks strange to me? I know that shots were reconstructed so I'm wondering if that's what's going on here? Or is it something wrong with my download? I'm using VLC to watch it.

Is this a known glitch or was this present in the original? Just curious :)

Again, sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Here's a link to a screen shot:

First, congrats on 500 pages for this thread.

Second, I think I found another article that wasn't posted yet but since Harmy posted in it, everyone's probably seen it. :P

I downloaded the MKV of this the other day and it looks and sounds AMAZING.

You've done a real service here, Harmy.

When reading the book "Star Wars: Year by Year", I noticed a bit about Spike TV airing all six Star Wars movies in HD back in 2008. Was that airing where the HD version of the 2004 dvd versions came from?

I'm also pretty sure that Spike TV zoomed them to 16:9. Yuck.

What should we do about this?

Good question. This is a bit stickier than a typical bootleg-on-eBay affair.

JEDIT: Do you have an eBay account?

I don't see how the DE is a backup of the Faces Laserdisc. It's certainly sneaky...

Yep. That's why I think it would be hard to convince a non-OT.com-savvy rep to pull the auction.

Message the seller and explain the irrefutable harm this kind of distribution for profit could potentially cause the project. As a SW fan and (hopefully) somebody who appreciates Harmy's work, he may voluntarily remove the BDs from the auction.

First response should always be a polite request before other options are considered.

AVCHD backups are not sold separately and must be kept with the original trilogy laserdiscs. There is no copyright violation as these are backups and not available as a separate item. You are receiving these as a GIFT and PURCHASING the laserdiscs.

This only makes me madder at him. Like if he writes this in his auction, he's somehow safe from both the fandom and the copyright police. Smooth.

Yeah, this is tough.  You could maybe convince the rep that because the "AVCHD backups" have a decidedly higher intrinsic value than the Laserdiscs, the fact that they are bundled as a freebie extra is a ruse--they are demonstrably of much more value than the Laserdiscs, and their description as a "backup" is false and misleading.

Then to explain why they are of more value, you can say that have vastly superior video quality, audio quality, AND they can easy play on a modern PC or home theatre setup, whereas the Laserdiscs require unusual equipment for playback, and still look like crap.  Furthermore, they are bootlegs, so shut the auction down.

Heck, you could even use your little image of Luke through the years of various home video releases to show how these "free backups" are the real thing of value in the auction, and that they are not at all a backup of the Laserdiscs as described.

I did it.

IDGAF.

eBay most likely will do nothing anyway.

But I did it.

That's some sketchy stuff :(

I'd say everyone flags that. The more eBay sees that, the more likely they'll take immediate action.

Well, I reported the auction and gave this as a reason:

"Alongside the LaserDiscs, the seller is offering a Blu-Ray bootleg of the films as a "gift"."

(It only allowed 100 characters).

It's technically the same as if he was giving bootlegs of the official BDs as a "free gift" with the LDs.

I don't know, looks like somebody's been lurking, at least...

I encourage everyone with an ebay account to flag his auctions.

They're in or around New Bern, North Carolina, according to the eBay listing.  Geolocation plus IP addresses may help unmask this tool if he is on our forum.

Okay, let us mods deal with this. Please pass on any useful information to us in PM only. And please keep rumor and hearsay out of Harmy's thread.

There is no need to have pitchforks and torches at this point.

Two points about George Takei:

  • He is a chief proponent of the “Star Alliance,” wherein fans revel in the distinct pleasures of both franchises rather than trying to pit them against one another.

  • George Takei played Lok Durd, a Neimoidian in The Clone Wars. So technically, he has been in Star Wars.
