Here's a novel idea for Star Trek - A starship goes on its maiden voyage and nothing goes horribly wrong.

And they have a crew who know how to unplug the holodecks!

I might be willing to go for a reboot of TOS.

Maybe after the movie series completes. Or, another break in the timeline producing a new set of the principals.

I don't know if Paramount owns the storylines of the various episodes from TOS, TNG, Voy, DS9, and Enterprise free and clear.

If so, it might be fun to do an entire series of remake episodes from the best story concepts. Same basic ideas, only made even better.

Yeah you're right if we go that far next think you know they will be putting locks on the door so any tom, dick,or harry can't just wonder onto the bridge and take over the ship.  We can't have that sort of thing going on.

Let's say you were asked to come up with an idea and setting for a twenty odd episode per season new series of Star Trek to be aired in 2016. What would you characters, setting, and story be.  it can be anything as long as it would work in the Tv and not movie format.

I'd simply go with a reboot of TOS that remains faithful to the spirit of original Trek while also embracing modern storytelling and character development.

So, like Star Trek Continues? Or like a TV version of the new movie crew?

It wouldn't be a prequel/midquel/sequel to TOS or a spinoff of Abramstrek. It would be a plain, straightforward retelling of the original five-year mission from beginning to end -- a serialized TOS with a modern facelift, so to speak.

Hey let's play a little game.  Let's say you were asked to come up with an idea and setting for a twenty odd episode per season new series of Star Trek to be aired in 2016. What would you characters, setting, and story be.  it can be anything as long as it would work in the Tv and not movie format.  let's see what we can come up with:)

Episodes would be split between exploring, dealing with character's personal issues left over from the war, finding peaceful solutions to the problems of the Gamma quadrant, and dealing with the rising tensions with the Romulans.

Well that is my pitch, what do you think?

I like the focus on Diplomacy. Not sure the flashback structure would work for me as a fan. The Dominion War was also, 15 years of television ago.

Yeah I know but I figure for new fans I would handle the war the way the war was handled in B5 or the time war on Doctor Who and treat it like something that wasn't seen on screen so viewers who didn't see DS9 wouldn't get lost but what we see would agree with what happened on Ds9 so older fans wouldn't feel left out either.

The war would be more of a background set up thing then a source of major plots.  I figure after season one flashbacks wouldn't happen too often and it would be more there to set up the universe and give the captain and Vorta aid problems to work out in the gamma quadrant.  In fact the more I think about it the more I think I would make the Vorta female because we didn't see many of them in the past.

Oh and one thing that would also be dealt with would be the Vorta and the Jem'Hedar have to learn to live as real races without the founders telling them what to do or being cloned any more.  I mean they would have to relearn how to breed the way they did before the founders started clone them and find a sense of purpose and a way to run their races on their own.  I mean before they only existed to enforce the will of the Founders what do they do now?  That could lead to some interesting stories involving the Vorta character if you ask me.

Glad you liked most of my ideas and I like some of the other ideas you people have come up with too.

This is a fun game if you ask me.

 It is. :)

I'm actually going to my own Star Wars fanfic pitch I have in the back of my main notebook (where I keep doodles of superhero costume redeisgns, fan fic ideas, and hearts with my and Jennifer Connely's initials in them).

I'm typing it up to share.

I misunderstood. Figured you meant something more gimmicky... like LOST with the constant flashbacks.

 Sounds like fun:)

Fanfiction may get laughed at but I find it is a great way to get the creative juices flowing and practice writing.  You don't have to worry about coming up with a whole world you can just think about what you would do with a world that already exists that you love.  It's a lot of fun if you ask me.

I can't wait to read your ideas. I love reading other people's stories, that why I have a ton of stories favorited on Fanfiction.net so i can follow them:)

Yeah I am not going down that road.  I tried to get into lost because it had some actors i liked in it but I kept getting lost and confused by all the flashbacks so there is no way I would go down that road:)

I would want my series to be welcoming to new fans so people who have never watched Star trek before can start with it and not be lost while at the same time building on what came before so old fans could also enjoy it.  I would hope to pull it off as well as the relaunch of Doctor Who pulled off it's drawing in of new viewers while throwing a few nods to the past in.

What do you think of this.

http://badassdigest.com/2014/09/22/theres-a-part-for-william-shatner-in-star-trek-3/

Personally it feels like a gimmick to try and draw older fans in to me.  I mean I thought having Spock in the new time line gave the character a little too much information about what was in their future but now Spock and Kirk?

I know Into Darkness was the highest grossing of the Star trek movies but I also know that for what it cost it Paramount was expecting to make more money off of it.  A movie has to make double it's budget to break even for the studio so with a budget of $185 million Into Darkness got past the break even point by a bit but I think for that amount of money they were expecting it to make more then it did and the suits know that it was bad word of mouth by fans that caused a drop off at the box office after the opening weekend and this is there way to try and get the fans back on board without having to change writers or how the films were shot.

Personally I had very little interest in this movie before and Shatner being in it doesn't make me any more likely to spend $12 to see it in theaters.  I will rent it when it comes out on video but Shatner being in a movie doesn't make it a must see for me and I am pretty sure there will not be that good of a character or plot reason for him to be there,it's just they want someone from the old crew and Nimoy has retired so they are giving Shatner a shot.

What do you think?

New eNovella:

The wedding of Captain Jean-Luc Picard to Doctor Beverly Crusher was a small, private affair overseen by the mayor of La Barre, France, and witnessed by the groom’s sister-in-law and the mayor’s wife. At least, that’s what the happy couple always told their friends. On the anniversary of that blessed day, however, Worf and Geordi La Forge manage to coax the real story out of the pair, to discover a tale of mythical treasure and a lost civilization in the Delta Quadrant. It all begins when the omnipotent being Q crashes the festivities, declaring himself best man and bringing along an unwilling guest as a surprise for the groom.

It would be nice to see The Shat as Jim Kirk again.

Would it really? Think about it, Shatner hasn't really played anyone but himself for years. Even Denny Crane was Shatner-esque. I feel like him trying to get back into Kirk would end up like the Kirk parodies, similar to how I feel Frank Oz ended up almost giving a Yoda parody in the prequels.

As I'm already boycotting Abramstrek, this development means nothing to me; I just don't give a shat.
