^and he was right too...

the first two Harry Potter films were remakes of Young Sherlock Holmes which was a remake of Temple of Doom which starred Harrison Ford, just like The Empire Strikes back which wasn't directed by Columbus.

The actual plot hole in ESB is that without a working hyperdrive, there's no way the Millennium Falcon would be able to travel between star systems without taking many, many years to do so, given the inconceivably vast distances between them.

I believe on TV Tropes they refer to this as "Scifi Writers Have No Sense of Scale".  ;)

As much as I usually hate overexplaining fiction...

With sublight engines pushing for long enough, the Falcon achieves near c flight. A week passes on board the Falcon, while Luke trains with Yoda for months. Boba follows long enough to figure out their course, and can easily predict when they'll arrive. The Empire, thus, arrives just before the Falcon.

I don't know where this myth comes from that Boba Fett pursues the Falcon through open space. (and for a week!)

On the last shot where he swivels on his chair in cockpit. The Falcon was always shown getting much further away from him. Like he was no longer following. The falcon is flying off.

And he also seems to be triangulating a course of trajectory on that last shot too.

Bespin apparently was not too far away but what that means in terms of distance I have no idea it does not matter either to me.

People always seem to get annoyed when Boba Fett is brought up :) lol

In regards to the Ion cannon, I always assumed it was a really high tech piece of equipment that was difficult to get hold of, especially considering the size of the thing. It's basically the ace up their sleeve in order to escape.

As for Bespin, it seems to me Fett was figuring out where they were going when tracking them, triangulating their trajectory, then instantly took this information to Vader.

Vader would then instantly move in as quickly as possible. By the time Han and crew got their on their limited propulsion Vader had already set up.

If that were the case...then wouldn't a plot whole in A New Hope be...

...an A-hole?

That doesn't really work either. It would still take years from everyone else's perspective to get from one solar system to another, even traveling at near-light speeds. And Darth Vader is not depicted in this movie as being a particularly patient dude. If it took the Falcon that long to get to Cloud City, there is no reason why it could not have been intercepted by the Empire, who could easily get the drop on any ship traveling at sublight speeds.

Of course, as hairy_hen pointed out, the actual reason why this was able to happen was because it was written in the script.

However, my own “explanation” for this plot hole is that the Avenger made a quick hyperspace jump to rendezvous with the Executor and rest of the fleet, which has clearly gathered again after having been scattered at Hoth and the Falcon pursuit, before Vader orders it deployed.

This is consistent not only with Threepio's attitude when we cut back to the Millenium Falcon's cockpit — it would have been quite shocking to have a sudden hyperspace jump into the middle of the Imperial Fleet — but also because the sequence in which the fleet is depicted breaking up does not feature the asteroid belt “horizon line.” This was a constant visual reference throughout the film up until this point, but the shots of the Imperial Fleet, the Falcon detaching, and the pursuit of Slave One feature a pretty wide field of view, during which the asteroid belt is nowhere to be found, implying that they're somewhere else.

Also, why would Han have to bother to check his position if they never left the Hoth system?

“That’s impossible, even for a computer!”

“You don't do ‘Star Wars’ in Dobly.”

I want to know what the Rebel ground troops on Hoth with the blaster rifles were supposed to be doing.  Target practice for the AT-ATs?

Why didn't the Empire provide air support in the Battle of Hoth?

Why doesn't the Executor just nuke the Rebel Base from orbit? (it's the only way to be sure).

How can Han, Leia and Chewie survive in the asteroid without space suits?

What do giant space asteroid worms eat when they can't get Millennium Falcon? Subpart: How do mynocks keep their teeth sharp when power cables aren't around?

Why does the opening crawl say the Rebels are led by Luke Skywalker when they're clearly not?

Why does Han say this one goes there and that one goes there, when clearly that one goes there and this one goes there?

Bonus PT/OT crossover plot hole: If hate leads to suffering, and 3PO was made to suffer, did Anakin hate 3PO when he made him? Subpart: If Owen Lars, a free moisture farmer, had no use for a protocol droid in an environment such as Tattoine, why does Shmi Skywalker, a slave on the same planet, need one? To help program binary load lifters? If so, how does 3PO remember this?

More newly discovered plot holes and questions that need answering from Episode V coming soon.
