Would you consider doing the three-menu design? I know it's 3 times the work on all 3 movies, but it would be so much more professional.

Ah, well - fanboy's dream that ain't gonna happen. I'm more than happy with what you've done - these menus are righteously kick-ass!

lol

I thought about doing that. But I don't think it's going to happen. One set of menus is hard enough!

Ok, here is my updated main menu, with preliminary options menu (and transition) added on.

ESB Main Menu v3
(5MB, XviD) right-click and choose "save as" to download.

There are still a few things I need to tweak on the main menu, making the general less jerky being the first one.

Oh, those menus are brilliant. What program are you using if you don't mind me asking. I eagerly await your LD transfers. If you were ever thinking of doing a 'score only' audio track for them, let me know as I have the soundtracks for all three films. Keep up the good work.

Hardcore Legend, I sent you a PM awhile back. Did you finally find those soundtrack CD's?

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

The menu looks amazing, zion. Can't wait to see the finished product. Are you doing Single or Double layer for your version? I'd still like to see someone use the 1985 soundmix, at least for ANH.
What do you mean there's no ice? I gotta drink this coffee hot?!

Wow zion, those menu's are unfreakin' believeable! Great job.

One thing though, after Vader says "prepare your troops for a surface attack" and turns around to view the upcoming 'attack' I thought he would be looking at the scene select menu with scenes from the first couple chapters of hoth visible. Just thought it might fit the line better. Great stuff however you decide to go.

Holy fucking shit. That is a-frickin-mazing! Might I suggest changing the music around a bit when you go to the options menu? It seems a little bland the way it is. But it is still amazing.

I like the subtle music approach. Too much of the main theme music would get tiresome. I love it the way it is!

On second thought, the music is fine, the problem is that Vader's chair turns silently and the chamber opens also silently - maybe try to fit a sound effect in there to fill the void?

I showed my brother and his friend your menus and they love it (and I do too). Can't wait (actually - I can - SO MAKE IT GOOD)!

Ok, I'll make it good. Just for you man.

Well, tonight I put the menu on hold and switched back to the video encoding. I took my test DVD over to a friend's house and was very dissapointed at how dark my video came out. I've spent the past few hours tweaking my color correction process, and this is the result...

http://www.aptirrelevance.com/videoprojects/images/ANH.jer.dvdi.08.jpg

Not only did I brighten the video up significantly, but black levels are still black, and the color is even more vivid. If you saw my raw capture, you wouldn't believe that these screencaps came from it.

At first glance, the only thing I don't like about these is the noise. I'll try to work on that.

Those look nice

EDIT: Oh, btw, how do I import my own avatar? I tried putting in a 50x50 JPEG and it said it was the wrong file type (and that only JPEG and GIF are allowed...) Anyone have a solution?

Wrong thread for this but I have the same question... never seems to work

Zion, the latest transfer looks great... I will be updating the "screenshots" asap

Woo-hoo!! These new shots look just AMAZING...

This is going to be gooood... Oh, I've noticed you are still doing the IVTC in VirtualDub... how good is that working, quality-wise?

Looks really good! Except there is a blue halo around the right side of some objects (notably faces) and a red halo around the left side...this is particularly noticeable in the shot of Leia where you can see all 4 stormtroopers around her, but it's noticeable in the one you posted here. But on most of those shots its barely noticeable, and the vividity is amazing! (vividity is a word, right?...)

Very nice. Definately an improvement.
I am still not sastisfied with the color, brightness and contrast of my own rip although I test dozens of settings in the last days.
I also tested several noise reduction filters and found deen for avisynth to be the best. It smoothes the picture nicely and has little detail loss.

Here is an sample screenshot:

noise Reduction with deen

difference beetween the shots:

Compare the first 2 pics in a zoomed view and you'll see the difference. It is even more visible in a video clip.

Check out the "official" screenshots thread for updated screenshots from Zion's latest transfer.

I re-ordered the screenshots so that you can better compare Zion's transfer to the "official" Lucas DVDs.

Zion, the new transfer looks great and the colors are amazing, but I am wondering if the colors are a little too saturated. Take your R2 shot for instance:

10-04-2004 Capture
http://img92.exs.cx/img92/7313/R2-Old.jpg

10-19-2004 Capture
http://img92.exs.cx/img92/7361/R2-New.jpg

These captures are just a little off in terms of frames but look at the blue on R2... the new shot looks very bright.

I think mverta or someone else was talking about the colors on R2 the other day.... I'll see if I can find what that was all about later. I'm running late for work now but if I can get a chance I will look into this a little more and compare it with the Lucas transfer tonight.... after Smallville of course

Oh shit!!! I've never noticed these "new" halos, and after some testing I've found out that they are the result of the "Exorcist" filter... damn.... that tool is supposed to remove ghosting-artifacts, and it works by shifting the luminance to the side a bit, and multiplying it with the image. Well, it DID remove the bright halos around the edges, but now it's obvious, that it introduces some new halos as well... damn, damn, damn!!!

So, basically, it's all my fault...

Just wanted to say that the caps look great, keep up the good work zion. I cant believe the difference between the capture and your cleaned up version...wow, just wow.

One comment/opinion/nit-pick on your menus. While they are extremely hot, and way better than anything i could ever do, I fel they were a little long. Personally when i have to sit and wait for a menu to load on a dvd before i can start the movie i tend to get a bit impatient. And I thought that their were periods that were just too silent, like between the dialog there seems to be fairly large pauses and I felt that eliminating these would a) speed up the menu load a bit, but also make the dialog seem more natural.

Just my opinion.

But great work, its looking like it will turn out to be one hell of a dvd

So, basically, it's all my fault...

Well damn you Jan for trying to make it look better! I wonder if using a chroma shift filter would help on this??

Oh, and the IVTC works flawlessly on VirtualDub as far as I can tell. No problems as of yet, but I haven't sat down and really studied the difference between it and the AVIsynth method.

Simon, you are absolutely right man. At some points the menu seems a little dull and long. One thing you have to remember is that the main part of the menu (in between the transitions) has to be about 20-30 seconds long. It's the part that keeps replaying over and over until an option is selected, and if it's too short, it gets even more annoying.

I'm taking a lot of your suggestions guys and will be trying some new things to see if I can liven the menu up a little. I really don't like the dialog right now on the main menu. I think it needs something else, but I just can't decide exactly what.

Thanks again for everyone's input. Please keep sharing your thoughts, good or bad. I love the constructive critisism! It's the only way I can make things better.

Ash, it does look a little over saturated. Maybe I need to tone it down a little.
