What would have made the prequels better in your opinion?

 I actually think the more serious got, the worse it got.  When the PT tried to fun like the OT, it wasn't that bad as you could sort of watch them with a grain of salt.

The problem is whenever they tried to get real dramatic, the moments were either laughable or just plain cringeworthy.  Think of the Anakin/Padme love scenes in AOTC, Anakin's turn to the darkside in ROTS, or Order 66.  These scenes just didn't work on an emotional level, so they ended up hurting the movie.
