Hey, anyone have the exact time the edits are on this Blu-Ray? I'll have it in my hand shortly.

I tried Googling this but all the results are people talking about the edits, but not listing the times or screen shots.

Thanks.

Hi Matt_Stevens:

I have been looking into getting the DYRL? BD edited, too.

Here are all the changes that I have been able to find on the DYRL? BD.

1. An unnecessary opening title card about  the back story of the movie.  The back story was already explained in the movie by one of the main characters, Lynn Minmay.

00:00:12 - 00:00:27 Title Card (BD dyrl, 15 seconds)

2. Two censored 1 second gore scenes.
a. Milia's Queadluun-rau mecha crushing the head
of Zentradi soldier
00:44:45 - 00:44:46 (BD dyrl)
00:44:44 - 00:44:45 (remastered DVD dyrl, 1 second)

b. During the ending battle aboard the Macross fortress, one of the civilians is decapitated.
01:39:50 - 01:39:51 (BD dyrl)
01:39:44 - 01:39:45 (remastered DVD dyrl, 1 second)

3. Two music changes have been done for the new 5.1 audio on the DYRL? BD:

a. At the moment when Lynn Minmay's commits herself to singing the DYRL? song, the background music of  "eternal love" or "abareru kokoru" has been removed.
01:37:07 - 01:37:51 (BD dyrl, song is missing)
01:35:27 - 01:36:11 (remastered DVD dyrl stereo, 44 seconds)

 photo vlcsnap-2013-04-30-18h19m37s40.png

b. When Lynn Minmay raises up her arm to show Misa Hayase that the DYRL? lyrics translated Misa has helped to win the war, the DYRL? song piano reprise has been removed.
01:48:22 - 01:48:44 (BD DYRL, song is missing)
01:48:14 - 01:48:35 (remastered DVD dyrl, 20 seconds)

kaarma33, excellent, I am glad you are taking this on. I am so far behind on my Hong Kong hybrids I just have no idea when I could possibly get to this. I hope you can kick its ass and nail it. I also hope you keep the video at the high bit-rate and don't cram it smaller for a BD25. Might as well make it perfect. :)

I sure would like to see a BD 50 of the theatrical DYRL?, too !

The audio tracks could include:

1. DVD theatrical Japanese remastered stereo audio

2. LP DYRL? drama album Japanese stereo audio

3. BD Japanese 5.1 audio

4. BD edited Japanese 5.1 audio with the two songs mixed back in

5. LD Toho English dub stereo audio

6. DVD DYRL? Spanish dub stereo audio

7. CD DYRL? music stereo audio

Galaxy Network English subtitles would be included.

The Dark Heroes Productions English dub audio cannot be used without permission from that dub group out of respect for their work.  But, you can watch it on youtube.

I am going to visit my mom for the next 2 1/2 weeks, so I'll be away from my computer for that time. And then when I get back, I have fan edit I will be working on.  So, a few months are likely to pass before I get started on a Theartrical DYRL? BD restoration project.  Maybe, I can just make some pre-production plans until I find the time for the project.

someone should post the edit differences at http://www.movie-censorship.com/

probably the people that figured it out.

either way, I think that is another useful site fan (re)editors and video enthusiasts that should have these edits listed by times.

since I don't have the Blu-ray, I know I should not make the comparison.

just my 2 pennies.

look forward to a BD50 fan re-edit.

I'm on the job. Going to collaborate with one of our own. :) The one thing I'd like to have is the splices or blurred footage for my edit, at the proper 23.976 frame rate and converted to losses.  My DVD master seems to have a corruption and I am having trouble with it.

Should anyone be able to help in that regard, it would be great. The actual BD video will be converted to lossless so that I can be frame accurate in the restoration of the footage. H.264 uses key-frames and that would screw everything up.

THIS WILL TAKE TIME It won't be an overnight job.

And I should mention I have absolutely ZERO knowledge of editing 5.1 tracks. My job with this one will be simply to restore the film of its footage and then master out the highest possible quality H.264 encode that can be used for the Blu-Ray. The audio won't be my end, other than 2 channel PCM, which I am fine with. I can handle that side of the audio.

I just realised I have the Japanese LD of this on my shelf, unopened!

I probably should transfer it.

The audio is what's most precious about the LD. That PCM soundtrack is quite strong.

Hi Poita and Matt:

I would be interested in a copy of the DYRL PCM audio file, too!  As well, could you walk me through on how to do a LD audio / video capture?  I have quite a few DYRL and Macross LDs on hand, but I'm not sure about the procedure. Thanks a lot!

I understand that Matt has been very busy with work and a big back log of other personal projects, so I would really like to get this project going.

I have the DYRL Limited Edition BD set that includes the Macross Flashback 2012 BD (DVD upscale) on hand.  And I have a few more DYRL audio tracks and fan subtitles that can be added onto the BD.

After 2+ months, my desktop computer is almost up to speed for HD video editing. Sony Vegas Pro 13 and Sound Forge 11 are installed on Windows 8.1 on an SSD, i7 4.5 GHz, 32 GB Ram and a 4 TB thunderbolt external hard drive.

I just need to do some file back ups and get my GTX 580 3GB Classified video card water cooled, which will take me most of this week to do.  I'm likely to need some video editing, sound editing, BD authoring, BD cover art advice for this fan edit, since I have not done an HD fan edit before.

I have been looking at these fanedit.org threads in preparation for this fan edit.

While I'm really happy to see someone taking on this project, I just want to say to this about Evan's computer: drool !!!!!

Will you be upscaling the missing footage and editing it into the bluray footage or is there an HD source for the footage available?

What are all the available sources for DYRL?

Anybody have the English LD with the international credits/visuals? I believe the original export title dropped the DYRL subtitle.

So, a new book came out and we learned so much, and it is called, “Anguilosaurus, Killer of the Living”.

I think an upscale of the uncensored scenes would be fine for an edit. The blu-ray itself isn't very sharply detailed as it is.

The Shade:

Evan1975 is the guy who started this thread. I'm me. It took me quite a while to put this computer together not including the video / audio software I'm still re-installing.  And I still need to get some water cooling on the video card and do a lot of file back ups this week.  So, I'm just going to get myself as organized as possible for this week before I start on this fan edit.

*****

Space Kaiju:

According to Macross World fans who live in Japan, any HD TV broadcasts of DYRL were from the censored DYRL bluray.  I'm having trouble finding that thread on the MW forum just now.

The two seconds of up-scaled, non-censored DYRL video would be taken from the remastered HD DYRL DVD.  I have the limited edition DYRL DVD boxset that also includes the original, un-restored theatrical DYRL. The theatrical DYRL DVD would be good for the audio.  I also have the remastered Flashback 2012 DVD.

PS

I look forward to your completed Transformers movie restoration!

Clutchins:

You can find a catalogue of most of the Macross video sources on Macross World!

DYRL video sources that I have.

1. VHS

b. Macross - Toho English dub, unedited video, Best Films

c. Super Space Fortress Macross DYRL - Toho English dub, Mono audio, un-edited video, Japanese subtitled, Victor Entertainment, VTG-270 (Update.)

2. LD

a. PILA-7008 Japanese, Doly Digital surround (1 copy)

b. TLL-1284  Toho English dub, Analog mono (1 copy)

c. SF078-5022 Japanese, Analog stereo (1 copy)

d. BEAL-448 Perfect Edition - Japanese, Dolby Digital surround (3 copies)

e. BEAL-132 Flashback 2012 - Japanese, Digital stereo (3 copies)

3. DVD

a. DYRL Perfect Edition

b. remastered DYRL

c. theatrical non-remastered DYRL

c. remastered Flashback 2012

4. BD

a. DYRL limited edition set

And I have a bunch of DYRL audio sources  that I need to get organized.

Space Hunter M:

I can't remember if the Toho English Dub DYRL LD has the English credits and the Flashback 2012 ending.  I'll check the DYRL Clash of the Bionoids VHS tapes, too.

*****

Pablumatic:

Sometimes the DYRL BD is very sharp and detailed and sometimes the video is grainy and a little blurred.  I think the problem was the way that the movie was animated with layers of cel animations.   Here is one review of the DYRL BD that was quite critical.

Theres a program called Smart Cutter (not freeware unfortunately) that allows you to precisely cut h264 streams and only re-encodes the frames around the cuts, so it wouldn't be necessary to have a fast PC if the censored parts are the only parts you'll be editing.

I was also thinking about taking the uncensored scenes from the HD Remaster DVD and adding them to the BD, but it would probably take me a long time to get around to it.  First I wanted to make a custom Japanese subtitle file made from the original script and some transcripts I found online, but I'm not even halfway done, then I wanted to re-translate some parts of the English fansub script since it has some errors IIRC.  I'll also be synching the audio from the PILA-7008 LD and maybe the "theatrical audio" from the 2nd disc in the HD Remaster DVD box.

The DYRL Toho English dub LD has large English (arial font?) credits on a black background with the first 1/2 of Mari Iijima's Angel's Paints song. The credits are revealed with a screen wipe from left to right.  This DYRL LD also has burned in Japanese subtitles.

I haven't looked at these video sources for long time and so I updated my previous post for the DYRL Victor Entertainment VHS.

The Super Space Fortress Macross VHS (Victor) is an official LD to VHS transfer from the DYRL Toho English dub LD. So, there is no differences in video or audio edits except for the drop in video quality.

The Clash of the Bionoids edited DYRL VHS has the English credits scrolling upwards.

I cannot remember for sure, but I think the Best Video DYRL VHS has English scrolling credits over a black background with the karaoke version of Mari Iijima's Angel's Paints song.

So, I just need to type up all the English end credit versions and keep that handy for the BD end credits.

The official DYRL 30th anniversary BD has the same style for end credits as the DYRL perfect edition and remastered DVD and LDs.

1st part of Macross: Flashback 2012 video + Japanese credits placed in certain spots + 1st half of Mari Iijima's Angel's Paints song and then the rest of the credits scrolling upwards on a black background + 2nd half of Mari Iijima's Angel's Paints song.

The theatrical DYRL DVD in the limited edition remastered DRYL DVD box set has just the Japanese credits scrolling upwards on a black background +  Angel's paints song.

As an alternate ending, I was thinking that the Flashback 2012 BD video could be used instead of the DRYL BD + the English credits placed in the same style as the DYRL BD.

Hi Buster D:

I will download the Smart Cutter trial and see if that works.  But, I need to re-rip the remastered and theatrical DYRL DVDs onto my hard drive.

How would you be up-scaling the remastered DYRL DVD video to 1080p?

I have Video Enhancer software with "Super Resolution" that can use the lagarith codec for an upscale.   It expands the DVD video to 10x the original file size.

And then the 2 seconds of DVD video would need to be color-matched to the BD video.

For another audio option, I have the DYRL Drama LP as 4 mp4a audio files.  Would you know what software to get the audio stretched and sync'ed to the video?

I haven't found that the Sound Forge audio software has a keyframe function for stretching the audio.  Cyberlink Powerdirector suite looks like it has time stretching with keyframes as an audio option.

Sorry for the late reply.  I didn't really have a concrete plan since I've never done much video editing.  IIRC, the censorship doesn't affect that many frames and doesn't affect the entire frame, so I was thinking that it might be possible to edit each individual frame in Photoshop and keep as much of the BD resolution as possible.  Then replace the frames using Premier or similar software.  But again, I don't know if I'll be able to do this anytime soon.

Author
Time

Did they just alter frames in the censored version or remove them altogether?  If they just altered the frames, I could probably find a way to restore the portions that are altered rather than replacing the entire frame with an upscale.  I did that on the Roger Rabbit projects.

Author
Time
 (Edited)

The two altered scenes of 1 second each are blurred.  I don't know how you could restore those scenes except by re-drawing the blurred out 48 frames at 1080p scale.  I know I can't draw at all well.

Would you like me to take snapshots of those BD blurred frames and the remastered DVD non-blurred frames and see what you can do?

And then there is the theatrical DYRL ending credits which are Japanese kanji scrolling upwards on a black background.  The theatrical DYRL DVD ending credits would need to be up-scaled as well.

The DYRL BD is now a lagarith encoded avi at 300 GB!

I still need to get the remastered and theatrical DYRL DVD video fixed according to Adigitalman's guideline before I up-scale the video with Video Enhancer software.

http://www.infognition.com/VideoEnhancer/

I already have the DYRL Toho English dub as a 2 Ch. ac3 at 192kb/s and as two FLAC files.  The DYRL subtitles are likely to be: English - Galaxy Network version 2 and Spanish - Skull Team Fan Subs.

That's all I've done for now.
