So after not being fully satisfied with the grade for these films, I decided AGAIN to restart from the beginning with the whole process all over again with a clean slate. So this whole last week I powered through and have almost finished an entirely new grade of ROTS, taking in to account all the previous issues I had. The end result is something I'm very excited to show off. When you see ROTS, it will actually look newer than 2005. I was able to get rid of much of the cheap low-budget digital video look, and bring about a much more refined higher-production look to it all. It appears more modern and helps a lot of the CGI.
Much of the reason I was able to do this, is that I own a Sony NEX DSLR (or mirrorless camera technically) and it actually has very similar color to the Sony camera used to shoot the PT (I did research on this). So I went through a whole bunch of advanced color calibration techniques to remove most of it's inaccuracies and tints in the different color and luminance ranges, giving it a pure color look. Then I can apply all the filtering to make the color and light response to appear more like film. So with a few tweaks (and I'm still making some right now), I was able to transfer the presets over to the 4K upscaled footage easily.
So the clip will be a bit more delayed, and I expect a few screenshots I can post when I feel satisfied with them enough to post them for comments.
