Muddy was justifying the ROTJ line with ROTJ logic. Nowhere is it even implied he is justifying ESB scenes using ROTJ. We can of course refer back to prior events whilst discussing that scene from ROTJ. You pretty much have to when the discussion is revolving around other people making out Leia is an incestuous freak solely due to that "always known" line. When the kissing scene has been brought up by both of us, it's only been because we've had to point it out to other people making it an issue based on future knowledge! She didn't literally KNOW", and as an aside, "there was never any passion in that kiss anyway. It was always kind of awkward, not at all like the one she has with Han later on.
