Thought I'd post this here too since it's regarding the recent rumour. A Yahoo person picked up the story too, which is excellent to spread the word that people do in fact want to buy this, even if the rumour is false since I'm sure Yahoo will get more views than a lot of other sites

The thing you speak in America is the Special Edition of original English, made by a third party. As a comparison, Star Wars Special Edition at least has some merit since it was not made by a third party.

The difference between rumor and rumour is like the difference between Greedo shooting first and Greedo not shooting at all.

The thing you speak is closer to what we speak in America than original English, or even the English that was spoken when our nations parted.

Of course but that is not the point I was making. So to adjust the comparison, one is director's cut and the other is fan edit.

Oh, sorry, I forgot how annoying you are.

I'm in the 98th global percentile for skepticism and the 99.99th percentile for pessimism, but thinking about it in the terms of the rumor, it would actually make a lot of sense to release the OT in the run-up to the new one.

It's virtually certain that there will be a blu-ray double-dip promotional tie-in, and from EVERYTHING that has leaked so far, the "Ep. VII" production team is really reviving the vintage roots of the franchise.  Releasing the OT would serve as a perfect prelude to dovetail into a release of the continuation story...

I don't know.  There might be something to this one...

But no matter what, I expect the mono mix will get shafted.

No, the Queen's English is just one of many genre films that were combined together to make American English, the Star Wars of languages.

And why should I assume the English are any more competent at language than they are at governing colonies? They've done a pretty good job at losing control of both. America (because obviously nobody else lives on those two connected continents) wouldn't be a third party if England didn't keep treating it like one.

I actually think that there's a good chance of the mono mix being included and it would make me happy beyond words, but I won't complain as long as one of the 1977 mixes is included.

On other sites & forums there are pessimists constantly pulling us optimistic movie fans down by reminding us that Fox owns the distribution rights and saying that Fox owns the two Star Wars trilogies (until 2020......and STAR WARS - or 'A New Hope'......FOREVER!!!!!) and can do whatever they want with the movies,....if Disney persuade them to release the OUT,....Fox will get all the profits, so what benifit does Disney have (apart from the added hype for Ep7)

I really dont know who actually OWNS the existing Star Wars films.....if an unaltered SW trilogy were to be released would it be Fox who would be the instigator,....possibly because Disney is getting all the attention from the new Star Wars & Fox wants a part of it?

Hmmmmm

Yes, we really have people arguing over spelling.

But if you're talking about the thread topic, then no, it's not...well, it might be, but probably not soon...and even if it is, no one really knows it is and is just making stuff up.

Ah fuck it dude, let's just go bowling.

A lot of people online seem to be obsessed with the whole distribution rights thing. Fox does not own the movies, they just have distribution rights, so they can't do anything to the movies actually since they are trademarks of Lucasfilm. Fox will not get all the profits, just their distribution cut like they always have. I have no idea why people seem to think lately that Lucasfilm won't get ANY of the profits. Also, Fox simply will not spend money on restoring films they won't own for a whole lot longer, they won't do it. Disney will definitely be the ones backing a restoration of the OT, if it's going to happen.

Wasn't it said in some interview with Matthew Wood or somebody that when they were doing the sound mix for the 2011 Blu-Ray, they also digitized all previous sound mixes for the film?

If this does actually happen, I just hope the original films themselves are made available as their own set or sold individually and not in another megaset where I'm forced to purchase the prequels again.

Also, If Disney is doing this, This is the company who released The Lion King on Blu-Ray with missing VFX and The Little Mermaid with swapped shots in the wrong order and straight cuts when there should have been dissolves. It seems like even if this is really happening, there's lots of room for them to screw something up.

It could also depend on the level of independence Lucasfilm has from Disney. They do have their own facilities. I don't think the same people supervising the classic animated film transfers would automatically be the ones to do a new OT transfer.

They digitized them, but only as 192kbps wma files, because George didn't think they needed to go any higher. They're old anyway and thus obviously sound like crap by modern standards.

@nien nunb Yeah when they were doing press for the 2011 box they said all the old mixes have been digitized. We just aren't giving them to you.  All the press for that box set was weird. "Here, be grateful for this collection of Robot Chicken and That 70s Show Parodies, you dorks. That'll be 89.99$".

I didn't mind the parodies, except there was some vintage stuff they could have included, (like the Donny and Marie musical skit) and the RC stuff was already available separately, making it a double dip.

It will be pretty easy for them to include Mark Hamill's episode of The Muppet Show next time around. ;)
