Maybe, but as I said, R2 units have looked the same since the prequels, so I don't see a problem.

Obviously in "real life" things are up graded and evolve in a design sense so it would be more realistic, but the trade off is we then don't have the visual element that made the original films so great.

It's just a personal opinion, I want to see old stuff in the new movie so that at least it looks like Star Wars. Nothing can beat the original stormtrooper, they're great.
