Well, the quality is really shitty there but I guess if I can't get a better copy, it would be better than nothing.

Are you able to download it from YouTube?

Author

Yeah, yeah, I already got it from there, thanks! But the quality is pretty bad.

Author

Yeah, I know.  I'll keep my eyes open if I find a better quality.

So, I just realized, that on the HDD, which died on me yesterday, there was a copy of the "These Amazing Shadows" documentary, some footage from which I was going to use for my DeEd docs :-( Any chance anyone's got it on BD (or at least DVD) and could help me out?

Guys, can you help me find a few shots, the sound of which would most clearly show sound effects being different in the BD mix over the original mixes (other than the Krayt dragon scream) and then also clips showing music being drowned by sound effects? Thanks!

I remember the lead-up to the attack on the Death Star sounding pretty anemic music-wise on the Blus, but it's been a long time and I've been trying to forget how it sounded.

CatBus, I know that was definitely messed up on the DVD, but it might have been fixed for the BD; the swapped rear channels around the same time were definitely fixed, though, from what I've read.

I don't need a long list - I need some shot I could play while the narration says this:

The original Oscar-winning soundmix was redone as well.

[Play a before/after sound clip]

Nar: And in this new mix some of the original Oscar-winning sound effects were replaced.

[Play the krayt dragon yell from the original and the BD]

Nar: And even John Williams’ award winning score suffered, by being drowned by sound effects in some places.

When Chewbacca blasts the cameras out in the detention cell, the amount of sound effects used to convey that is overload compared to the original version audio-wise. Did you need shots of something like that?

Well, that was mostly a '93 change, not an SE change, right?  I don't like it either, but if the focus is the SE's...

Yes, that was a '93 change. Bringing that mix up will only cause confusion as that sound mix is included in the MKV.

Yeah, that rumor went around a few months ago. The sources aren't named and there's the matter of Fox still having the OT's distribution rights, but it's in both companies' interest to come to an accord and release the unaltered films. Time will tell. And even if it does get released, will it wind up being noise reduced to hell, or have the soundtracks messed with, or the colors poorly restored?

My concern is that it won't be nearly as equal to Harmy's painstaking body of work. When I first watched the sources video that Harmy released, I couldn't believe how off the colors and shadows were of the Blu-ray set. And to see the comparison shots of the new ESB 2.0 really impressed me even further. Hopefully now that Disney holds the reins, they can spare no expense to enlist a brilliant team to research and develop the trilogy as Harmy has done. In fact, I would be even more thrilled if Harmy was hired by Disney for this project.

It would be nice to have a full professional restoration… but at the moment it is just a rumor from unconfirmed and mysterious sources that is being amplified because it is what people want to hear.

Look in the comments on that comicbook.com link - Fox owns the distribution rights to the original trilogy and would have to license them to Disney.  Smells like a steaming pile of bullshit.

You're right. I'm sure Fox isn't interested in making a boatload of money. It's more advantageous for them to snub Disney and continue trying to sell the 2011 set.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Well OK. I hope I will be able to eat my words, though not literally..

I'm not sure it's just money in the bank. Yes, there are a lot of people who would be interested in such a thing, but there is a certain echo chamber effect going on that overestimates the demand for this set. An entire generation has grown up with some form of SE as being “their” Star Wars.

It is also very possible that the terms of the sales and agreements would make it very difficult for a particular party to recoup their own outlay. Such difficulties can and have prevented many a worthy project from progressing.

I hope to be proven wrong. I would love to see a genuine restoration of the historically and culturally significant originals.
