This is one of the few times I have gotten legitimately, deeply saddened by the death of a celebrity. It's a shame.

Yeah. Damn.

Mork...there I've said it.

Mr Williams grew to dislike the character but from my point of view it's still not only the most enduring character he played (being essentially a toned down version of his stand-up persona) but I also found much of his non-Orkian work too saccharin.

Least said about Jack (1996) the better.

People who commit suicide need to be brought back to life to get a good ticking off too.

If this is the case here there is always help available. No man is an island and has total sovereignty over themselves. It's not just the suicidal individual's own life that is effected by the act of self termination.

If anyone on here feels a bit of suicide coming on find another way.

I heard about it almost as soon as it hit the news, a friend sent me a text msg. I thought to myself "please let this be a hoax" and went back to sleep. Sure enough I heard the news reports this morning.

There was a bit in one of his early stand up specials where he portrayed himself as an old man. That will be bittersweet now.

I was immediately reminded of the one where he portrays himself and a "newspaper guy" character in split screen at the end of the special. Is that the one?

It still feels very surreal.

I even chocked up hearing the corny italian theme song to Mork & Mindy

Star Wars actually launched Robin's career.

The story goes that Garry Marshall's children saw the movie and told him "we want aliens in Happy Days" and that's how Mork was born.

I enjoyed Jack (1996).

Hook (1991) is clearly the best, however.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

I've actually been wanting to rewatch Popeye (1980) for a while. The movie doesn't deserve it's lousy reputation. (There never was a proper widescreen version until DVD, and it's one of those films where stuff is happening in almost every corner of the frame.) Williams must have watched every Fleischer cartoon in existence to get the voice and mannerisms down.

Popeye mutters a lot in the old shorts, and the original voice actor allegedly slipped in things past the censors. Robin nailed it.

Yeah. I know there are a few among our numbers struggling with depression, and likely more that know people who are.

Please don't go this route. Listen to the man himself.

There are always options. Find people who care about you and surround yourself with them. Get professional help. You can't cure depression, but you can manage it and there are people who will help you do so. Take long walks, listen to classical music.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

Truly I don't think he just had depression. I'd say he was manic depressive. When he was up, he was way up, and what goes up must go down. I know enough people who are bipolar and many of them will say they'd kill themselves if it wasn't for their medicine or therapy. He sought therapy, but it's not a universal problem that can be fixed with a universal cure.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Michael O'Hare typically for a time traveling transpecies warrior messiah he managed to depart this planet aged 52 and aged 60 :

Wasn't sure if this fitted in the conventions thread or here but as it kind of ties into the Robin Williams thoughts I'd decided here was the place to go. JMS can write a bit too boldly at times but he is a great speaker and here he speaks with such compassion it's hard not to get a bit of dust in your eye listening to him talk about the late Mr O'Hare.

Here are some nice images of Ms Bacall.

They don't capture the smokey velvet of her voice however.

Every time I see her I think of Jessica Rabbit, and vice versa, and I have to chuckle.

        A striking and lovely persona.

RIP Ms Bacall, and, if deserving, resurrection to glory.
