And Happy 100th Page, Harmy!
And Happy 100th Page, Harmy!
Oh, wow, wish it was under happier circumstances :-)
You check into whether it is still under warranty? (Not that I'd wait for that whole process to get a backup drive, but you could end up with an extra one for quite cheap...)
Yeah, it is actually, which is I am reluctant about trying to freeze it. But yeah, my roommate said, that when his HDD died, it took over a month to get it sorted out :-/
I can see your point, the freezing thing is really only a desperate measure for if there's something you really want to retrieve. If this is purely a backup drive and you're not missing anything, I'd say eat the cost of a new hard drive for your immediate needs while you process the warranty (for what will end up an extra drive). Granted, you might want to try deleting whatever data the drive will let you before sending it back, as you don't know what they'll do with your original platters (yes a zero wipe would be preferable, but any amount of deleting is better than nothing).
Well, I can't really afford a new HDD right now, but I think I should be able to backup the most essential DeEd files on the remaining HDD I already have - the lossless renders, if nothing else.
When you get a new HDD, buy two and send one loaded with backup files to someone you trust. ;)

It's also an interesting idea for distributing fan edits if Disney starts coming down hard on them. Just distribute xdeltas that convert the Blu-rays to the DeEds. Absolutely no infringement.
Someone would upload DeEd to thepiratebay in t=200s

Then they are the ones doing the infringing, who cares? ;)
But, as AntcuFaalb pointed out with his helpful link, even data that does not contain one bit of usable infringing material (such as xdeltas) could likely still be considered a derivative work, so xdeltas don't really solve that problem after all.

Depending on the manufacturer, sometimes they'll offer a cross-ship option on drives under warranty. You basically give them a credit card number, and they send you a new drive right away. Then you have something like 30 days to get the old drive back to them, and they only charge your card if you don't send it back in that time frame. I know I've done that with Western Digital drives before.
Well I have to say brilliant work Harmy you did a great job especialy I love the way Dagobah looks now dark and murky just like in the GOUT version of the film not that brighter picture seen in the 2004 release especially when Luke is plugging in R2 to charge up the light from the charging unit looked way too bright on the 04 DVD and BD versions and than there was the Cloud City scene that looks super and even the duel looks great only one problem with the 5.1 audio track at the beggining on Hoth it sounded like the track was reverberating and I wonder if that mistake can be fixed.
What’s worse George Lucas changing the OT or selling the rights to Disney
Sorry to hear about the HDD problems.
I just watched 2.0 with my gf and I couldn't even think about checking for errors, it was so mesmerizing. Thank you so much Harmy (again)!

What in the world does this mean??
hairy_hen, actually, while "reverberating" is not the word I'd use, I thought I did pick up (on the 5.1 track) some clipping and distortion during parts of the Hoth battle and in particular during the Luke/Vader duel. I hadn't mentioned it before now, mainly out of laziness b/c I thought someone else would.
In any event, I could be be wrong, but I have a pretty decent 5.1 system, and I'm pretty sure there was something going on there at the higher end during some laster blasts/explosions and lightsaber clashes I hadn't heard before (it was only on a few occassions). Then again, it may be nothing. I'll try to check it out tonight and get back to you with some exact timestamps.
Thanks for your amazing work on these tracks, BTW. To me these audio restorations are at least as valuable as the video, and I've been blown away by how good they sound.
To save some heartache, perhaps anyone reporting audio problems on a certain track should compare against the other mixes first (and mention this). If it exists across the board, then it probably is supposed to be that way, and not worth h_h having to track down, but if it does seem unique to a track, exact timestamps would be helpful, as Nick66 said.
And while there's also talk about colors, brightness, contrast, etc., it does come to mind that during the duel, most notably around when Luke is herded into the carbon freezing chamber, Vader's features were a bit more difficult to make out than I expected. Overall I liked the feel of the whole scene, but have to wonder if the blacks ended up a bit more crushed than they needed to be. I've only watched that scene on one display, so I may have judged hastily, but that was my impression.
Unlike the rest of the movie, I couldn't f*ck around with the levels in the duel scene, because any such adjustment immediately ended up creating the halos around the lightsabers seen in v1.0 (to brighten the saber cores, I had to separate them from the rest of the image in order to avoid the haloing artifacts).

How do you think I found the 1.0's two years ago? Just go type in 'Despecialized.'
And if you think ESB isn't up yet, type in 'harmy' as well.
NOTE: I didn't upload any of them. :P
“Evacuate ...in our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate their chances.”
So, I just realized, that on the HDD, which died on me yesterday, there was a copy of the "These Amazing Shadows" documentary, some footage from which I was going to use for my DeEd docs :-( Any chance anyone's got it on BD (or at least DVD) and could help me out?
Watched it. It looks superb man, top notch work as usual.
Willing to contribute if it will help get you what you need Harmy. Just saying.
