Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released) — Page 97

This is not the mono mix you are looking for, move along, move along.

A Jedi's strength flows from the surround mix. But beware of the mono mix. Anger, fear, aggression; the mono mix are they. If once you start down the mono path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will.

Is the mono mix better?

No, no, no. Quicker, easier, more seductive.

But how am I to know the good mix from the bad?

You will know...

[okay, I'm done now]

Harmy, just for clarification - is this the final version of ESB, or are you still planning on releasing a V2.1/2.5 to keep the releases in congruence?  I just recall you mentioning this a few weeks ago and didn't know if that was still the plan.

Thanks

There will be another version but some time down the road.  He wants to do Jedi and other project before he returns to ESB DE.

Checked out a bit of the mkv this morning and saw one of those things you can't unsee, right before the Wampa pops up and knocks out Luke, you can see a boom mic reflection in the eye wear on top of his head.

Harmy, are these the correct checksums for the (latest) 2.0 MKV?

LOL. I'm assuming you know this, but that was always there.

I don't doubt it was an original goof, but I'd certainly never noticed it before (I both love finding boom mics, and dislike how much it takes me out of the illusion).

If you watch closely, you can see the whole crew standing in a line just a couple of seconds before that.

Harmy, just an FYI, the "1980's voiceover" and "2004 voiceover" are not flagged as Russian/Ukrainian (tracks 17 & 18 respectively).  Not a big deal, they are named correctly, but the language flag isn't there.

Is that the case in fixed version?

Yeah, unfortunately it is but I so am not uploading another version now - the info is clear in the readme file.

Ok, so there is a mono mix but it was paired with 16mm prints which probably weren't as widely shown in theaters. Afaik there are no major differences between the 16mm and 35mm mixes right?

If that were the case, then the 16mm mono mix wouldn't be called a "mix", but instead a "fold-down" and nobody would give a shit about it...

I guess it depends on what you'd consider to be a "major difference".

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Just watched the 2.0 MKV and it's stellar.  Fantastic job, Harmy!  I would truly love to see Disney/LFL do a proper restoration of the OT from the original negs/elements, but I gotta say that it gets less and less vital to me with each new restoration.  This looks fantastic, and just feels 'right'.  Feels like I'm 11 and seeing it in the theatre again, and I probably haven't felt that way since the original VHS release.  I didn't even feel that way in the theatre in '97 during the re-release :-D

Sorry if this has been asked and answered already... but are there any plans for a re-specialized edition of ESB? No rush, of course, I won't be on the edge of my seat to hear Luke scream like a 200 year old man... But, for posterity's sake, I'd like to see that version again. At least Bob still sounds like Boba.

I have just looked at a few scenes of the MKV, and am completely floored: the quality is simply unbelievable. Amazing work, guys. :)

Slightly off topic (not really) but would I be correct to assume that a Respecialized Edition of Empire should be made available fairly quickly after v2.5 of Despecialized?  Since (off the top of my head) there aren't any changes you would need to wait for Project Blu's '97 version to be released (like Jabba in ANH), given that all changes for the '97 edition were carried over in '04 and blu ray releases.  Or are you not planning on doing respecialized editions of Empire and Jedi?

Harmy said:

Well, with Respecialized, I waited for Project Blu mainly for the audio, so if someone made a BD/2004 SE synced DTS-HD audio track from the theatrical DTS discs for me, it really should be a piece of cake to make a Respecialized version of ESB and Jedi.

Ah. I see. Well, that's (for now) unfortunate.

Will you do a "Making Of" feature for ESB or will you wait until V2.5 is complete?
