I understand your point, oh_riginal. I also like to think that Obi-Wan would spend the time catching up with Luke before diving into other important matters.

So now, with how it's rearranged in Revisited, I imagine it as they had already spent the time catching up - some in the speeder and even more in the hut, all the way until he says "Now, let's see what you are, my little friend".

You have me interested and curious :) Perhaps one of the tweaks is altering "Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough..." to instead be "Your father would have wanted you to have this when you were old enough..." or "I wanted you to have this when you were old enough...".
