Harry Potter (spoilers!)

Author
Time

This is the Harry Potter thread where one can divulge any information, by reading this thread you run the risk of reading some spoilers about key plotlines of the Harry Potter universe.

Just as a last precaution, in case someone should stumble in here, lets start each reply (if it should contain spoilers) with stating which book we are talking about.

eg

Goblet of Fire.

I am kinda sad that Cedric Diggory has died, but I embrace it because it was something the HP universe needed... someone dying. And it was great!

Rowling Says A Harry Potter Character Will Die
Source: J.K. Rowling
October 8, 2004

"Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling said on her official website that one of the characters will not survive the full series of books about the young wizard.

Asked whether she planned to kill off any more characters, Rowling replied, "Yes, sorry." But she refused to identify the character. It is unclear whether the death will occur in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth book in the series due to be published next year.

Rowling has previously said Harry Potter himself will survive until the seventh and final book in the series, but she did not say whether he will reach adulthood. "You have to wait and see whether he survives to be a grown-up," Rowling said in August.

Rowling publicly stated before the publication of her last installment, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," that a major character would die in that book as well, though we won't reveal who here.

I think having @ least one important character die per book @ this point is rather useful, since it will help the target audience understand that death and grieving are a part of life.

Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

I remember Entertainment Weekly once discussing how it would be a great idea to have Ally McBeal leave the series with her name on it. This sounds like it would've been fun, DAYV.

But, then again, many comics, books, and movies do that. The main character in Spawn was killed off in issue 1. That's how he became Spawn. Some characters require death to "live" per se.

They sort of did that with the series "Valerie" which became "Valerie's Family" when Valerie Harper was fired from the show after just one year and then finally it became "The Hogan Family".

They also continued "8 Simple Rules For Dating My Daughter" after John Ritter died and his character's protectiveness of his daughter was the reason for the show's title.

Don't forget that it's been officially renamed "8 Simple Rules". Yes, this is how it was abbreviated before. But now the title is official. There is still some male influence in the show with James Garner and, to a lesser degree, David Spade. None will ever be as overprotective as the late, great John Ritter, but both have been pretty decent additions and Garner's character is pretty good.

The difference here though, is that both of these changes were made out of necessity; I would like to see a scenario where the main character is intentionally killed off or leaves the show to further the plot, yet the show maintains its original title. This is what i'm hoping DAYV did with his comic; either way, I'd really like to read it.

Well, Kiefer Sutherland has said that if it would help the show, they could kill of his character Jack Bauer from 24. He'd be upset, but would understand it entirely. Instead, this season, none of the originals save for Jack is coming back (except maybe in limited roles).

I haven't heard jack about HP6. I'll just wait for it to come out and I'm sure my wife and I will be there waiting at midnight just like we did for Order of the Phoenix.
