I just caught up with Series 2 of Utopia.

The first amazing episode aside it's not as amazing as the first series.

Ian McDiarmid is only fun when he isn't speaking English. The cleverness of the good guys is displayed by having the bad guys so idiotic it hard to see how their over-arching conspiracy could possibly hold together. The digital blood is nowhere near as convincing this time round. But it's still a fun shaggy dog romp propelled largely by the momentum of the characters as played by the original cast.

The prequel first episode however is a work of genius and was almost too daring and evocative to watch.

The first series and the first episode of this series I would class as essential viewing, where as the rest of the second series is less satisfying second helpings.

I can't see why an American remake series would even be necessary. They could take the same conspiracy and just do a show about a series of American characters caught up in it. Global conspiracies are bound to have a different impact somewhere else. UK fans would be interested to find out how the story played out in the US. US fans would be interested in finding out the UK story.

By remaking it all you are going to do is piss people off by giving them a knock off of the original show.
