Definitely agree with Boost that cutting out a heavier fabric in the shape of the paint and sewing it on would make it look more dynamic. You could exaggerate the paint underneath it and still get that effect as well if you wanted.

Or do like they do with Spiderman and put some kind of rigid, form-creating (usually plastic) base underneath the mask to give it a better "face" shape.
