I just noticed this tweet we got last night:

Lucasfilm was showing restored original trilogy @starwars trailers @Comic_Con this year. Are these available? @swrevisited @SW_Celebration

I'm trying to follow up on this, I haven't heard anyone mentioning any trailers.

Can't decide if these are trailers for a restored original trilogy, or restored trailers from the 70s & 80s.

Since we didn't hear any whispers of anything non-Rebels related, I imagine he's just questioning a rumor he heard.

I imagine that if such a thing were to be announced, they'd announce it at their own freaking con.

All those 4K remasters I mentioned are also the same old versions already released on BD before. When Blade Runner was released, nobody cared about 4K, heck, most normal buyers wouldn't even have known what 4K was, now, even the average Joe knows what 4K is, as they are creating a big hype around it.

I only brought up Blade Runner to highlight yet another hypothetical comparison, where the final version gets a 4K DI from the o-neg while the older versions get a 2k transfer from an IP but still look great in HD.

He has to mean restored trailers. We would've definitely heard something within seconds if was an announcement of a restored original trilogy.

I know, I was referring to the trailers. I meant, could restoring the trailers be a clue that they're going to release the OUT?

Wonder if anyone managed to record it?  What would the point be of showing restored trailers without an announcement of any kind?

That's why I'm wondering if they were even cleaned up at all and not just the masters used for the '04 bonus disc.

Well, playing the Original Trilogy original trailers implies a release of the OT (SE or not). Especially since they were so focused on Rebels.

Why would they show vintage trailers at all regardless of whether they've been remastered?

 I have no clue

I think if we had a little more context it would make more sense.

It could also be a way to promote the new digital release, but if that's the case then why didn't they show the prequels since those are supposedly going to be released digitally too

It's Comic Con.

They were probably just showing it just to have something to show on the big projectors in the background while everyone partied it up on the convention floor.

That makes more sense than having an event that "debuts" these remastered trailers.

From the sounds of the guy's tweet though he made it seem like they were restored trailers. Would they restore trailers just to have in the background?

What does "restored" even mean? I doubt they were recreated from scratch using the original elements. They might just be trailers from the blu-ray (were there trailers on the blu-ray?)

 Because they're probably not restored

How does this person know they were restored?  Did they say so or did they just "look" restored?

They don't know, they just said it was.

He said they were restored, but unless they announced it or someone who knew told him, he'd have no way of knowing they were actually restored or not.

Doubleofive - have you asked that Oshan Ruiz guy if he can elaborate a little on this?  Would like to know why he thinks they were "digitally corrected."

“In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be “replaced” by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten.” - George Lucas

No there weren't trailers on the blu-ray complete saga set... and as far as i know the trilogy set didn't have any extras.

However, the Star Wars YT channel has a lot of original movie trailers in (technically) 1080p
