Rank The Indiana Jones Films — Page 2

One could argue that Shiva, YHWH and Jesus were all grateful for what Dr Jones had done for them and had joined forces to make the incredible safety fridge a viable source of escape.

They are all deities, and they do, do that sort of thing from time to time.

Maybe the inter-dimensional saucer beings can see through the fabric of spacetime and remotely shielded the fridge.

None of this explains why Brody and Sallah go from being rounded realistic human beings in 1936 to being comedy non-Americans two years later.

Or why the British are the good guys in Temple of Doom.

They are all pretty flawed films after Raiders.

Each is entertaining in places but each displays all the wonky creepy tendencies of George. Outdated ethnic character tropes, iffy romantic subplots, badly removed subplots (some of the editing out of abandoned scenes in TOD is atrocious) bizarrely bad special effects etc,etc

Raiders is like ANH a perfect film, beautifully edited and paced. Despite the subject matter it feels realistic even though it can't be. And the special effects sit perfectly into the live action and stunt work. The characters are plausible and vulnerable enough to feel tension and relief during key moments and it's fun in the same way AOTC isn't (or at least wasn't until Frink started fiddling with it I look forward to Kingdom of the Ridiculous Skull intensely).

Wow, I have an entirely different ranking than anyone so far:

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Temple of Doom

Melud, I move to have this ^ testimony stricken from the record. I present in evidence every frame of KOTCS. I rest my case.

the inflatable raft escape is laughably absurd.

No more absurd than other stunts in the series and especially some of the sillier moments in Crusade. It always baffles me how people go on about the inflatable raft but give a free pass to equally unrealistic and silly moments in the series.

On-topic, what's everyone favorite action sequence in the series? TOD's mine cart chase is easily mine.

ROTLA truck chase is definitely mine, followed by TOD on the bridge and TLC tank chase.

 Agreed again.

The mine battle in TOD, as Indy is fighting Pat Roach over the rock grinder and Shorty is fighting the Maharajah. John Williams excels himself by scoring the action and intertwining both Indy and Shorty's themes.

That or the truck chase from Raiders.

Aw man, Last Crusade's tank chase is the best.

At the time it was released, it was THIS

It was just so awesome to have the real Indy back in action.

Probably...

  1. Crusade
  2. Raiders
  3. Temple
  4. Skull

Crusade was one of my favorites as a kid, never liked that much any of the others. They're okay as films but not very meaningful for me. But now Crusade feels a little too childish, at least compared to the first one, but I like the plot and the people better. Temple feels a little cringeworthy and I don't think I'll be watching it again, it's only gotten worse every time. Skull is just dumb, I've seen it maybe twice and not going to see it again.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

Raiders and Doom are tied for first place.
Crusade and Skull are tied for second place. Crusade has a better ending, but Skull has a better beginning.

Original, Special Edition, and Prequel trilogy gusher. Not a fan of any Disney era Star Wars.

I am yet to be convinced of the existence of a fourth movie, I still have a couple of fanedits to check out. From what I've seen though, it's almost as if there are crappy CGI sequences that are deliberately crafted in such a way that they can't be edited out without leaving big holes.

You know the nuking the fridge scene in Crystal Skull? Same thing happened to Batman in the Dark Knight Rises. Characters surviving nuclear explosions without any nuclear fallout instantly takes me out of any movie.

Aside from George Lucas, I blame Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale. If it hadn't been for that completely crazy first draft of Back to the Future Indy wouldn't have been taking any nuclear joyrides in airborne fridges.

That was a fusion bomb in TDKR. No radiation.

Somewhat off topic, but there are rumors of a fifth Indy film eventually coming to pass.

If they ever do get around to making this film, I hope they deal with a Muslim relic.  The Ark of the Covenant was a Jewish relic, the Grail a Christian one, and the Sankara Stones are Hindu, all three antiquities from great religions.  It seems that Muslims in general are more easily offended, which is possibly why they haven't done so before.  Nevertheless, I feel it could be truly interesting and an opportunity for insight into Islam.  Indy often travels to Egypt to visit Sallah.  Why couldn't he travel to the Arab world again, this time to rescue some important object in Islam?  In an Indy RPG, the Black Stone goes missing.  Such could really be an interesting pretext in my mind, especially if they were to make a more serious sequel.

Actually there is a lot of radiation.  In TDKR, the bomb is a pure fusion bomb, which presently doesn't exist, as a fission reaction is always used to create a fusion reaction.  But since the TDKR reactor used some other method to reach the appropriate temps for fusion, it would not spray radioactive waste, which are byproducts of fission.  These are what cause fallout, as they continue to emit radiation for years to come and spread throughout the atmosphere.  A fusion reaction emits massive amounts of radiation, but only in the immediate burst of the explosion.  When there is no reaction, there is no new radiation.

What a nerd I am.

I wonder if I'm alone in liking Last Crusade the least, even with Skull in the mix? It's not bad but it just comes off as bland compared to the rest for me.
