Given the baddie-of-the-film nature of the prequels, it's not hard to have Obi leave Ani for dead, and we never see Ani again. A new bad guy shows up in the next movie, dressed in black, and Obi lies, saying "Oh yeah! That guy in black! HE killed your dad! Definitely not me!" as a means of helping motivate Luke to fight the Empire and cover his rear end.
