I embarrassingly haven't sat through the SE since I saw it at the cinema, have only ever looked at it in parts. That is why I was interested to see what footage people would really want to see from the OT. I was expecting something with spaceships ;) , but I'll be onto this next week, so will go with whatever is the most requested by then.

That's not embarrassing at all. Not watching the SE's is how you stay sane.

The lightsaber training. Every home transfer has it show up as white in some shots, greenish in others, but in all the bootleg transfers it looks basically the same shade of blue throughout.

The takeoff from Yavin and then the X-Wing fleet passing by the red planet.

 This would be awesome!

edit: Nevermind didn't see that poita was making the suggestion, carry on.

edit2: as far as scenes I'd like to see. Some of the darker scenes perhaps? (to see how visible the details are etc. Shots like the ships flying to the death star right before dr. ball's torture of leia.

Hell...greedo vs Han was a pretty dark setting also ;)

I would love to see anything from the Death Star attack - especially those shots that were replaced in the SE.  But honestly, I'll be happy seeing anything from this project.

Thanks for the update, Poita.

Thanks for all the suggestions, keep them coming, I'll start work on Monday.

I'll try to upload some stills of other scenes requested if I get a chance.

Then it will be nose to the grindstone time...

I saw an episode of Australian pickers where they went to some old movie collector's theatre where he had at least three reels of Star Wars. Pickers were drooling on it but the guy said he should have "a million dollars" before considering selling it, haha. Are you aware of this guy, poita? He had some unique film equipment at his still working cinema. Just shows you that those are still out there.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

Yeah, I know that guy, it is faded Eastman unfortunately.

Hey man, I noticed you were looking for high capacity storage for your 4k transfers, check this out.

https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/cat-datastorage/cat-opticaldiscarchive/product-ODSD55U/

likely pretty expensive in the short term, but it'll pay off huge long term.

Where people come up with these prices for things that bears no resemblance to reality, I have no idea. I've seen this happen with everything from not so rare comic books to animation cels.

Thanks for that, but the 1.5TB discs are $180 each, which works out more than HDDs.

I think LTO6 is more affordable at this stage as a long term archival solution.

Where are you going to find a machine that costs less than 2k USD? The tapes themselves are a good price but the machines are quite costly.

I'm doing LTO back-up as part of my current post-production gig (LTO 5). Very cool winding/rewinding/loading sounds in those machines, slightly reminiscent of our old Beta Hi-Fi deck ca '86.

Machines are around $2K, but the Sony disc machine is $7K, so in that context LTO6 is a lot cheaper.

Just to clarify. This is from the 16mm version, right? And not from the 35mm.
