I don't know specifics about much else that was changed due to fan backlash. The biggest thing I can think of is Jar Jar being mostly shunted off to the sidelines (except for bringing in a dictatorship, great job there).

So, Lone Star, now you see evil will always triumph, because good is dumb.

Harrison Ford is back in London after his surgery.

He's looking spry and is refusing help from people like you would expect from grumpy old Ford. Seems to me with his new "pegleg" he could do a lot of still shots from the head down almost to the knee, even. Definitely sitting scenes.

The cast definitely looks more foot than leg, which is also a good sign. He seems pretty determined to keep doing his own stunts, too, judging by the older quotes which is great. Love that guy.

I like how the one subtitle makes it seem like the entire ship fell on him.

Go Harrison go! A nice poke in the eye of all the people making sad old geezer jokes elsewhere.

I wonder if they will incorporate his injury into the plot now? The Falcon is too far from a safe harbor to seek a medical droid, so they improvise.

Yeah, I was wondering maybe they'd write a limp or a prosthesis into the script.

I kind of hope not, because I feel like our heroes should be invincible, but you never know.

The fact that Harrison's injury is causing so much trouble with filming makes me happy in that it implies that he gets a fair bit of screen time.

Because nobody ever got mauled by a Wampa, almost froze to death, and later got their favorite hand chopped off in the OT. ;)

Oh that's true, but I mean him having a limp isn't quite like instantly recovering from losing a hand.

Can't believe Harrison is already working around after surgery. Harrison truly is 100% the real life action hero.

I really want him to have a big part in Episode VII that does his character justice. I'm still getting over the disappointment of Indy 4, where I felt the film let down Harrison's dedication to the role. :-(

There are probably medical reasons for him to be getting up and around as soon as possible, but yeah, he's inspiring.

Between this and the surgery Peter Mayhew had to endure to get walking again, I hope the cast has suffered enough to appease the movie gods.

I was under the impression he returned to the US for rehabilitation.  If he's back in London already, perhaps he will be back on the set sooner than expected.

Him leaving for the US was just tabloid nonsense as far as I know.

Space-Pirate old Solo with a bionic pegleg. Yowzah!

Fischer's daughter playing young Leia?  I see a scenario in which a new generation of actors could be in line to continue the story of the big three starting at the end of ROTJ.

I'd be completely ok with that.  If James Bond, Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, Doctor Who, Marshal Cogburn, and Batman can be so expertly recast - so can Luke, Han, And Leia.

Wouldn't bother me much for the spinoffs, as I don't really have any preconceptions or incredible expectations for those anyway. But I hope they keep it out of the main series.

 It's been done. ;)

It would be interesting if there was a lot of space pirates around in the wake of the Empire's fall. Han was sometimes referred to as a space pirate in the early days, but it's not really what Solo does.

I wouldn't like that at all. If nothing else, there is enough space within SW universe to make films about new characters.

Agreed. I hate when actors are recast for a direct continuation (by direct, I mean as separate from the way Star Trek is, which, although one continuity, is broken into different series) of the rest of the series.

I agree on there being plenty of tangents to explore.  It's embarrassing that Lucas couldn't get out of one damn solar system in 30 years.

Recasting doesn't bother me at all if it's done well.  Some stories would make it necessary.  The Zahn books for example, if filmed, would have to be recast.  That would still have been my preferred continuation of the franchise.

I'd prefer an animated adaptation of the Thrawn trilogy at this point, personally (and 2D animated, at that -- enough with the CG monopoly).

I don't get what everyone has against 3D animation. I dislike almost all 2D animation myself.
