Actually that's what most of the Despecialized Edition is about. You do realize that the rounded corners are originally just in a few shots, so removing them is just the same as removing any other unwanted artifacts (or, oh no, SE elements!) from shots.

Yeah, I could throw one of these together pretty trivially, I believe, if there's interest.  The problem, of course, is that you couldn't use this overlay and also use graphical subtitles at the same time.

 Yeah, that's exactly the problem with that solution.

I think it might work with a Blu-ray image, as a permanent menu with no buttons.
