I'm with you on the thought that the probe travelled a good distance before finding Hoth....& the Destroyer that launched it, but the Destroyer looked alone out there whereas Vader was in a fleet, so I recon that the Destroyer that was sending the probes was jumping from system to system on its mission while The Executor in the fleet was monitoring any feedback

Couldn't possibly have already been in the Hoth system. Consider: "Admiral Ozzel came out of light speed too close to the system," implying that the Rebels would have already been aware of any ships present and likely to detect them. Also, "Comscan has detected an energy field emanating from the sixth planet in the Hoth system," implying that their sensors would likely have been able to pick up other energy readings, even just the generators for such a large shield. And simple logic alone would tell me that if I were in a system looking for signs of Rebel activity in a state of the art vessel with a capable sensor array, I would use my own ship and personally scan over the planets of the system instead of these little droids that can hardly cover any reasonable percentage of a planet's surface and expect it to find a needle in a haystack. Really, probe droids are intended to be a desperate measure for someone "obsessed with finding" someone, a shot in the dark as it were. I just can't believe the ship was actually in the Hoth system.
He didn't say it was already in the Hoth system. He implies that the SD is a good distance away from Hoth by saying that the probe it launched had to travel a good distance before finding Hoth.
