Well it being mono makes a whole lot more sense especially for a low budget flix and one without a 70mm release. I should learn not to trust imdb.

Looks like even the analog-only LD is stereo, so it might not be possible to do a preservation of the mono audio for American Graffiti unless someone has access to a film print from before the Dolby Surround remix.

You would need a print of the original 1973 cut. Every home release is sourced from/based on the 1978 extended cut, which was only ever in Dolby Stereo.

Yep, that's what I figured.  Hopefully it can be preserved someday, along with THX 1138 (which is probably more deserving considering it has far more obvious changes).

Hi there,

I've heard the remixed 5.1 of American Werewolf is significantly different to the original mono mix. Does anyone know where I can download this audio ? Or could someone point me in the right direction.

I work in Audio post production and a lot of work goes into getting everything right for the director prior to release. Would like to get the way Landis wanted it to sound in 1981, not what a mastering house guy thinks works in 2014.

Well the widescreen laserdisc has the original mono:

Someone around might have it but there are no rips at the moment.

Who has synced the PCM mono for the TGTBaTU to a BD or DVD release?  I've forgotten who had what and who was working on what.

I kind of ask this every couple of months since I think there is a copy floating around but does anyone have a copy of Jaws in lossless mono (from the LD). The 5.1 is one of the worse remixes ever and the mono on the BD is regular DD not lossless.

Sorry your right DTS, can you make a copy zero? I would love to sync it.

I've never heard the mono on the LaserDisc but I can't imagine it being much better.  That 2.0 track on the Blu-ray is phenomenally good.

You might be right but I'd still prefer to try and sync the lossless track if possible.

So over the last weeks I completed the syncing of the Temple Of Doom widescreen laserdisc to the TOD blu-ray and Hunt For the Red October's widescreen laserdisc to the HFTRO blu-ray. PM me if you want a copy.

Right now, I am working on North By Northwest. I am syncing the Criterion Mono and the MGM Stereo/Mono laserdisc to the Warner Bros Blu-ray. I should be done at the end of this week. After that it will be The Good, The Bad and The Ugly's Mono laserdisc synced to the Italian blu-ray.

How does one acquire all of this stuff you're making :D? Does it exist in some sort of legal gray area where the studios simply look the other way?

I went to a horror movie film club where they projected the Blu of Jaws onto a multiplex screen, it looked damn good. Whoever did that restoration did a hell of a job. I'll never get to see it in 35mm, so....

Can anyone preserve Dirty Harry original mixes? Mono and stereo. It's on this collection of LDs. The remix is horrible. http://www.lddb.com/search.php?search=dirty+harry&sort=title

I don't think any of them were originally stereo, except for The Dead Pool.

Look at the back of this LD, and there's a tiny "reprocessed for stereo" credit.

Early pan and scan releases might be the best source for the mono, at least for the first film.
