Thanks for the eyebrows! I'm sure when you guys get to work on this film in more detail that it'll look amazing!

We know there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in Jedi. However, we will be posting some shots from the unaltered original version, including but not just:

Let us know of any other ones of interest.

Team Negative1

I'm very interested, too. RotJ has some of the best moments of the trilogy, even if I'd rank Star Wars and Empire ahead of it.

Can you post any pics of the speederbike chase and the Sarlacc Pit WITHOUT those CGI monstrosities crawling out of it? Thanks!

What can you get a Wookiee for (Life Day) Christmas when he already owns a comb?

I'm excited to see Jedi, despite the fact that I haven't commented here much. The color on those prints looks fantastic.

I wanted to chime in that I certainly have interest in this project, just nothing to add to the discussion by posting.  I wouldn't necessarily equate a less-active thread with less interest in the thread topic.

I'd really love to see Jabba's house band in 1080p if you have it :)

The less people post, the less screenshots and previews that will be put up.

There's no point in us just putting them up without any comment. There's always something to notice, and reply to.

If you're interested, but don't comment, then it appears that there is no interest.

No one here is a mind reader. We can't gauge what people are thinking unless they say something.

I don't know all the details of this movie, as I've only seen it a few times.

(Less than 5 times).

So if anything is missed, we need people to tell us about it.

Jedi is by far the least favorite of the movies from what we've seen. The only reason to preserve it, is just to complete the trilogy.

Otherwise we'd skip it, and move onto to other more interesting projects.

That being said, when the time comes, we'll give it some recognition.

What sort of feedback are you looking for as far as things that can be 'missed'?

Jedi is probably the least favorited by fans. But it's still loved, and the damage done to it by the Special Editions is by far the most profound, and this project is important for that reason. The changes to ANH are a bit 'in your face', but it was more about the spectacle and not completely altering the film. Empire SE was tasteful enough that I can sit through it and enjoy the whole thing. Jedi rocks and the Anakin ghost are just film-ruining changes.

As someone else recently said, I grew up with the pre-SE VHS and watched it more than either of the others. No matter how many times I watched it, the Sarlacc was just this immense, bizarre, slightly terrifying concept. And now it's a smooth digital beak thing that lives in a hole.

Things we look for and requests for comments.

1) Requests for screenshots of changed parts. (As people are starting to do).

2) Issues and problems with the GOUT and bluray, so we can do comparisons. Glitches, encoding errors, and mistakes left in (Besides glue marks and burns).

Such as the blurry section issue brought up by Adywan.

3) Comments about the images, and quality of preview images and videos.

4) Descriptions of errors or bloopers that people might not have seen.

5) Dialogue changes and different versions of soundtracks.

There are many of these that have been done for Star Wars, and Empires.

Links to discussion about Return of the Jedi would be good too.

There are too many things to list, this is a just a few of them.

We know there are experts out there for each film, we would like to hear from them, or for inquisitive people that want to know about this film.

===================================================

The community might not ever have a chance to inspect and examine these prints.

We have them now, and can do close up inspections of every single frame, giving us a unique perspective of this.

When have we ever had that before? Granted the blurays have higher quality images, and give us some good references. But nothng can beat having the actual real 35mm film, and the high definition scans.

We would think there are plenty of mysteries to explore, and plenty of answers that can be given out.

Take this opportunity for this film, and also for Star Wars and Empire Strikes back to ask them.

We will do our best to find out the answers.

So excited for this, not because it's my favorite of the series, but because it was the most hacked apart by special edition changes.  Lapti Nek, the Sarlacc, the triumphant ending song... I'm really looking forward to seeing all these again.

That’s impossible, even for a computer.

Do you have any shots of the Sarlaac Pit ready to go?  Since you asked for suggestions as to what to post, I figured I'd throw that one out there.  The beak is one of my least favorite visual additions that hasn't already been covered.

Here's the original door, from the intro to Jabba's Palace, that was changed in the Bluray:

Would it be possible to see Vader's shuttle flying towards the Death Star? Specifically shots which have the animated workers on the Death Star who are outside watching the shuttle fly past.

How about the emperor's close up while taunting Luke? I'd like to see how visible (or not) those optical black slugs are, and how much of a difference color correction makes when it comes to seeing them. Thanks

It's nice to see the original Salacc again.

I've just noticed those cables to Han's right of the bottom screenshot. I don't remember seeing them in RotJ. Have I always missed them for some reason?

Something which would interest me is the original Sy Snoodles puppet from the original Lapti Nek scene. I'm especially interested in seeing how the puppet holds up compared to its CGI-counterpart in HD.

Dailymotion streams the video at variable rates.

You can watch in 320p/480p/720p and 1080p.

Yes, and all of them are much more hardware intensive than YouTube =) Not much point in watching at 320p with a terrible framerate.

On the desktop right now, watching some of the clips. Really great stuff, and I have to agree, Jedi deserves to be preserved just as much as the other two. Just because a lot of people don't like it as much as the other two, doesn't mean it isn't important to preserve the original unbutchered version of it.

 That's a good idea.

Wow-the color, depth and overall clarity are going to be incredible. Of the three, ROTJ gets the short end in home video with its more modern film stock looking like fuzzy video most of the time and lacking in both color and fine detail.

The ONLY SE change that was effectively done was the 1997 re-scoring of the end celebration. But I have come to understand the power of Yub Nub and its need for preservation. The original 35mm Lapti Nek sequence will be outstanding.

By now I think it's time we stop hating on ROTJ so much and accept it for what it is. This is something I realized a little while ago. As kids it was our favorite, and then at a certain age we were not allowed to enjoy it anymore. It's a simply a great dumb-at-times adventure serial. When properly watched (pre-DC LD or one of ours) it can be better experienced and this I hope will really take that to the next level.

Weren't several of the bunker scenes in the Jedi bluray out of focus due (so the internet rumours go at least) to some cock-up in the scanning of those sections of film? Would be cool to see a comparison of those scenes with this print if possible.

Author

There are multiple sections that are blurry on the bluray that are as sharp as a tack on even the 16mm print I have here.

It was definitely a transfer problem with the BD, the out of focus sections are sharp on the prints.

Speaking of the bunker. At certain points the blue screen matte seems to go out of sync. It's when an imperial officer walks infront of the weird pylon structure, two rebels rush in. The rebels are followed by a black copy of their shape. And bits of the blue screen become visible. Would it be possible to see some of this.

I am totally stoked that you very recently made this thread and that we are now being treated to ROTJ stills and video clips here, while we are also being treated to ESB stills and video over in that thread!  I am REALLY looking forward to seeing a completed proper treatment of ROTJ with absolutely NO LESS excitement and anticipation than I am looking forward SW or ESB!

The three films together (screw the prequels entirely, IMHO) represent what is quite arguably the GREATEST cinematic trilogy of all-time!  THANK YOU Team Negative1 for your amazing treatment of ALL THREE films!!!  Truly, watching your work, along with Harmy, Team Blu, and Poita's recent efforts has actually literally brought tears to my eyes on a couple/few occasions...

VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!! ;)
