As you well know I have argued that it be in the best interest of all religions to take those items out of their official editions. Including the Koran and the Tanakh.
It would still exist in the same way the embarrassing bits of Enid Blyton, Georges Prosper Remi :
and the slightly dodgy titles of Agatha Christie books :
are still available for study.
For a church, synagogue or mosque to come out and say that they will not include such items in their officially endorsed scripture would send a very good signal that violence of that nature is a thing of the past in a religious context. Not something of the present.
I would include the passages about selling children and killing witches too as well as all the whipping and hand removal of the Koran.
As for accusing me of hating Christianity, that is not accurate lacking in nuance. It's like saying I hate Jews because I disagree with some things the state of Israel does. It's the sort of thing a child would say.
I find some of it distasteful but I also find some of it rather beautiful (mostly the Christ bits), some of it I find frankly surreal and sometimes hilarious.
While I have suffered some discrimination from Christians on the whole I have suffered more from people who call themselves agnostic and I don't hate agnosticism. My reaction to Christianity is more due to studying the history of the religion and the formation of the scripture as well as a personal assessment of the contents. Christians I take on a case by case basis just like anyone else.

Short memory I posted pictures of gays being stoned and hung in Muslim countries. Multiple times. Perhaps I hope for more from the Christian churches as they are more open to altering the text of scripture. Some have already altered by translation the Levitican text from referring to men laying with men as they would women to "homosexuality" of all kinds. Also most of the offending Islamic countries have remained behind the times where as places like Uganda and Russia are going backwards largely due to the influence of Christian Evangelists from America.
