I believe this may have been a U.K. TV special. Does anyone have it and was it ever played in the US?
Thanks

It was retitled for the UK.

THIS is exactly why I was asking. I sent the op a note to see if he's got this saved in better quality and if he'd consider sharing. It would be cool to have because it's not on the Special Collectors Edition DVD or the Bluray.
An unfortunate number of Trek tv specials have never seen the light of day on DVD. Several did make it into the Japanese tv Laserdisc boxsets, but they remain horribly expensive.

I have the 25th and 30th Anniversary LD's. Journeys End was on Japan LD as was Inside Star Trek: The Real Story.
Those are the only ones I know about.
Journey's End was also released on DVD, as part of the TNG "TV movies" box set. The one I'm searching in good quality is Star Trek Saga : From One Generation to the next, which was originally as "episode 0" of TNG's season 2. I think it was also released on some Japanese laserdisc.
This site is a good resource.

Details on the specials can be found under miscellaneous.
I really want to see the 30th anniversary Trek tv special, as reviews I've read made it out to be SWHS level bad. They did a sketch mixing Voyager with the cast of Fraiser!

I'm friends with Blaine and I never thought to ask him. I'll send him a note today.
As for the 30th Anniversary, the thing I disliked most was that they end it before it actually ended while giving out awards at the end. It was the same way when it was broadcast on TV. At least I have it to watch.
Wow, small planet! ;)
Does he know about this site?

I believe so. I don't know that he's ever signed up or perused here though. He's more of a film collector and such. He's a really great guy.
TrekBBS says this ...
Yeah. It was actually one of their better First Look specials. It featured behind the scenes footage not seen on the DVD along with interviews with Borg make-up effects technician Todd Masters, costume designer Deborah Everton, and actor Neal ("Lt. Hawk") McDonough. Too bad Paramount didn't include any of that on the DVD/Blu-Ray release.
Here is what Blaine had to say ....
It was only called "Beyond First Contact" when broadcast in the UK. In the US, it was shown on HBO and was just "Making First Contact".
What might this be?

Shame I don't have the cash to pony up for it.
Unless someone in the UK could help, you would need a multi-standard VCR for this.
Here's a less expensive auction in the UK.

I have a Panasonic AG1980. it could handle it, right?
It can't play PAL tapes, AFAIK.

It's pretty bad. Saxophone solos, clips from the shows, the "funny" Voyager parody ... Pretty boring, the 25th anniversary is soooo better
Yes, but like the HS, it must be preserved as a warning to future fans. ;)

I've got it transferred somewhere (I think as either an avi file or a mkv file), if I remember correctly it had burned-in Japanese subtitles (I've seen it just once or twice). Should I search for it for you?
The Kenny G musical tribute is kinda cool and I'm not a fan of his. But yeah, the 25th is far more entertaining.
Didn't Jason Alexander from Seinfeld host a Star Trek TV tribute of some sort?
If you're interested, Jonathan Ross' guide to First Contact on VHS was also released in German:

Thanks. I'll check it out but it's not what I'm after ultimately.
