Tried to edit lukes rescue in Empire strikes back to retain the shuttle flying to the executor. It's a rough mock up and the music needs smoothing out where I made the cut or perhaps extending the final note after bring my shuttle into luke hanging of the bottom of cloud city.

I really don't like any of the special editions footage in this section apart from this shot of the shuttle flying to the executor. I see it as like a game of chess and the pieces moving around the board so I wanted to retain this scene. I am trying to find the marriage between the original and the special edition with this but I will admit that it needs work but I shared it because I wanted to share the idea of a different way of looking at it. This goes a bit of a way to suggesting a passage of time between the falcon flying off and returning to cloud city so let us know what you think of the general idea and re-arrangement. It's my first attempt at trying to find a middle ground between special edition and the original for this scene.

And yes I would also be thinking of adding tie fighters destroying cloud cars once the gap was established and the break in the footage was smooth. I would use the celebration footage from ROTJ to show a cloud car being taken down by a tie fighter in this section also coming before the shuttle flying towrds the executor but I don't have the skills for that. Why? because tie fighters don't feel dangerous in Empire Strikes back so if we saw them blowing up a cloud car we could associate them with a threat to the falcon finally. It would also add a further passage of time between the falcon turning back and returning. I think they fly away from cloud city for like 3 minutes and are back in 10 seconds.

There is also the possibility of Vader walking to the shuttle being retained with the line "Bring My Shuttle" although I am not so bothered about it being cut but I am trying to figure out a restructuring of the sequence that helps ease the passage of time of the falcon making it's way back in longer than 10 seconds. There is also the missing scene that nags me about Vader actually spotting the falcon in the distance returning to cloud city as per the script so this all could be possible if a break in the score was established after Luke is left hanging in the blustering wind. In conclusion I feel that an expansion at this point would add a lot to making the passage of time all the more plausible of the falcon returning but as you can see I am only an ideas man and lack the proper skills to pull it off 100% but I think I found a good premise on a new structure for rescuing luke and making the falcons trip back a little more easy to swallow. Even showing shots of the falcon racing through the skies of Bespin back to cloud city would be a good choice of intercutting but this would need music of which there currently is none.
