I wonder if the EU ever explained which of the two skeletons were Owen and Beru. ;-)
I believe Owen and Beru were both separate skeletons.

Well by "dark" I meant like Return To OZ/The Black Cauldron dark so still a family movie but with lots of darkness but also so humorous scenes like a reference to the trash compactor when the charectors land in something stinky that is the kind of movie I want to see.
Ah, the whimsical '80s kind of dark -- that I can get behind. Kids these days, with their goddamn rainbow ponies and metrosexual p(o)op stars, need more movies that actually puts hair on their chest.

Yeah the 80s were nothing like that!

Removed for bandwidth concerns.
Summary: Blah, blah, indignation, fist wave.
*sigh* Do I really need to start posting pictures of Heath Ledger saying "Why so serious?" now?
Krakatoa, could you please find something a little less huge to illustrate your point? A nearly 9 meg animated gif is overkill, and can bog down the page load for some.
Where were you in '77?
When we saw Return To OZ we saw a dark movie but with scenes referencing 1939's Wizard Of Oz to lighten the mood and to remind us that this is an Oz movie we are watching.
What’s worse George Lucas changing the OT or selling the rights to Disney
A few tidbits from Carrie Fisher. Nothing really spoilerish.

Carrie appeared this afternoon on the Paul O'Grady show here in the U.K
I caught it by chance but someone has put it on youtube. Nothing on the new film of course but a chance to see Carrie now filming has started.

Well, this guy isn't nearly as creepy as that other asshole from Bring Back Star Wars, but he still manages to come across as a bit sleazy. Seriously, what's with the TV people over there acting this way in the presence of Carrie Fisher?
Paul O'Grady began his media career like this....
He is considered something of a national treasure.

How is Paul O'Grady a bit "creepy" and "sleazy"? He seems like a lovely bloke and what exactly does "acting this way" mean anyway?

Carrie is as funny as ever. :)

The set up was a bit weird. The camera position was very distant and the audience reaction sounded more like canned laughter.

Looks like we may be getting some flashbacks:
Perhaps we'll finally get an answer to the long debated question of which charred skeleton is Owen and which is Beru ;-)

Lupita Nyongo, long rumored, and Gwendoline Christie, have joind the cast.
Great, great news. Two fantastic actresses.
I guess I'll be one of the few who's skeptical about the casting of Lupita Nyong'o. Unlike seemingly everyone else, I wasn't wowed by her performance in 12 Years a Slave; she wasn't necessarily bad, but I thought her performance in that film was overdramatic and too "Shakespearean". I don't know, her performance just seemed out of place.
And is it just me, or does every film released these days feature at least one cast member from Game of Thrones?

F**K YES!!!
Lupita Nyong'o was so good in '12 Years a Slave' and Gwendoline Christie is hands down the best thing about 'Game of Thrones'. Somebody already gave her a Lightsaber a year ago ;-)...

Wooooow......cool looking designs.....
I like this one:
It doesn't look like something traditionally Tattooine, but does fit in though
J
I'm glad to see more female characters, another POC and it helps that I have crushes on both of them.

If you go back to McQuarrie's concept art for Jabba's palace, it's filled with very similar things: http://bensbargains.net/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/jabbas-palace-gate.jpg
You know of the rebellion against the Empire?
Not sure I like the look of that creature. Others mentioned this before when the first on-set video with JJ came out, but remember how bad the original dewbacks looked on Tatooine? Ironically I think the limited motion helps - I can't imagine those things moving much more and looking better. JJ has the right frame of mind but I'm not sure he's a practical effects wizard. He uses them when he can, but it takes balance and meticulous planning to make many of them convincing. Puppets like that, to me, just don't look right unless under special lighting conditions.
I'm more than happy to be wrong, just expressing a healthy degree of skepticism.
A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
I was impressed with how many exotic alien extras in Trek '09 were practical effects. I think J.J. knows what he's doing in that department, as do the people working under him actually doing the practical effects.
And we are talking about a bunch of random spy photos shot under less than ideal conditions.
