I think that anyone offended by the uploaded test clips should demand a full and prompt refund!

Thanks for the upload -1, BTW.

Here's a more extended clip of the duel sequence, including Leia and Lando.

This is a 1080p Clip:

=====================================================

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/k1nZxPlqCNx4K47X4IM

We will be posting the other parts shortly.

Notes:

---------------------------------

1. Unlike the previous 720p preview, this is a newer version with some improvements in the scan.

2. Not all members of the group have all the same files, due to the huge file sizes. I only had the previous preview originally, so that's why it was was lower resolution. Maybe the other member you refer to had a better quality one.

3. We have multiple prints. The previous clip was from a faded Kodak print, this one is a mix of that and a Fuji print used as the basis for a DCP that was screened privately.

4. We also have another faded partial fuji print. This was used for filling in missing frames.

5. We will also have a much higher quality fujicolor print coming in the future. There is also talk and rumor of an LPP print, but we are looking into that.

6. NONE of these clips have ANY clean up or restoration work done on them. These were merely test scans done to guage their quality. We are still quite aways from working on this film.

7. Color correction was done on all clips, unless otherwise stated as such.

As mentioned previously. There is quite a bit of damage and a lot of glue frames that need to be fixed, such as this:

I absolutely love what I see. in this sample. Even if you would release the movie in this condition I'd be happy

I second that motion!  We should all be immeasurably grateful for the work you've done/are doing.

I really wish we could go back to letting us download the clips in 1080p. I still most of the old ones. I would love to see Lando warning the people of Cloud City to get out.  The Probot landing and flying off  as well.

looking for HDTV of the  Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.  Also HDTV of The Lord of the Rings trilogy

Here is part 2 of the duel, in 1080p:

Notes :

====================

1. There is too much damage in these clips. Though they may look clean, they will need to be worked on.

2. There is still compression issues, stepping down to this level, and also done on dailymotion.

3. The sound is not finalized.

4. There is slight color correction on it.

5. Image is cropped for theatrical presentation.

These really are amazing.

And, with grain intact, they feel really theatrical.

Keep them coming.

so Vader really did have a pink lightsaber after all ;)

Vader's blade may not always have been as strongly red as we'd imagine in every shot, but there is no way it should be that pink.  You'll notice that Luke's blade is pushing well into cyan and even almost flat-out green at times, which is certainly not correct either.

I strongly suspect that the film has been scanned with a light source that is inappropriate to the color timing the film was actually aiming for, and that rebalancing the whole image to compensate would help eliminate this issue.

Other than that, it looks really great . . .

Yeah, even in the GOUT and other OOT transfers, Vader's sabre tends slightly towards magenta/pink sometimes but never this much. It doesn't seem as far off as you might think though - setting the hue to about -6° or -7° seems to give the more or less correct colors.

Damn, this was the first Star Wars movie I saw at the cinema, when I was a boy, and I just had a serious flash back, watching the dailymotion uploads of the "DUEL"......

I cant tell you guys behind the Team Negative1, how much I appreciate all of the hard work going into restoring the movies I grew up watching, and made me pursue a career in movie making, THANX GUYS :)

I am in total excitement over these updates.  Someday soon, this set of 3 films will again grace the video screens of us geeks ....... and I'm proud to be able to see it happen.

Thanks for all the comments, keep them coming.

Color correction is not final. We are waiting on a better print, and will be able to make better decisions based on that and others for reference. We are confident that these will be the closest to the originals we can find, other than the possible LPP.

Here is the third and final part of the duel scene:

Posting those pictures is a waste of time.  I might as well be looking at a 480 video on YouTube with that compression.

I agree. But it seems like continuing to suggest something they don't care to address might also be a waste of time.

I'm sure the real deal looks great, but has it been said why we're getting compressed movies and videos (that are still made to be 1080 pixels)? Seems like, since there are various team members working on various parts, it's a matter of swapping smaller sized preview videos around?

I still appreciate the previews to see the color/fading, damage, stabilization, etc. But, looking forward to getting an idea of the detail level too.

I'm, maybe a bit ironically, more okay with compressed videos on hosting services than still images.  Those I understand -- it's easier access for everyone involved, and supposedly different members of the Team have different quality clips available.  That's fine.

It's just the still images continually posted here, from day one that -1 posted, with this quality that baffle me.

Yes, we do have different images. Not everyone has broadband access, and also hosting sites have file limits.

For larger images, I guess you haven't looked here:

There were also many 2k images posted for Star Wars.

There will be higher quality pictures once we get the better quality scans.

These are all previews of previous, earlier versions as stated, and are not meant to convey final quality. We haven't even started to work on this film yet.

Oh, no, I saw the ROTJ ones - and even the most recent ones in the Star Wars thread look significantly better than this, even though they appear somewhat compressed too.  It's just kind of mind-boggling to me.

I know I'm coming off as harsh, but I far preferred the way the blog was run to many of the seemingly spurious and bizarre facts/attitudes presented here.  Maybe you ought to select one member to post under the Team account?  Concerns about maintaining anonymity are completely valid, but the way things are going just serves to confuse the rest of us.

Some of those Sept '13 images are indeed a lot better. But I think there is just going to be a limit when it comes to jpeg compression. Something like tiff or png might be a good way to go, on a site that doesn't recompress anything (either a such confirmed image upload site, or simply a file upload site like mega, that doesn't care that it's even an image). Not necessarily every day, but once in a while would be a nice treat.

Beggars can't be choosers and all, I know. But even if it is technically a 1080 or 2k pixel image, your hard work is masked by certain compression algorithms.

Author
Time

We're not really sure what the issue, or confusion is. The images are what I have, and they are compressed, and compressed again by the websites. If you want high resolution images, please check here:

There's not a lot you can do with it.

Also, it's not masking any of our work, because we haven't started doing anything with this film yet. These are just sample color corrected scans with no cleanup. None of the videos are final, they are just to show progress, and issues.

Hope that clarifies the situation.
